Whats the difference between the notations A, G and AG?

Example:
System          Stars          System Distances     Planets
Aiwaz        Aiwaz A-B                 300                 3G/5AG

Does this mean:
1) Aiwaz A has 3 Gas giant planets and nothing else?
2) Aiwaz A has 3 terrestrial planets and ONE gas giant?
and...
1) Aiwaz B has 5 terrestrial planets, followed by one asteroid belt, followed by one gas giant?
     Question) Do the annotations relate to orbital distances in any way...?
2) Aiwaz B has 5 asteroid belts and a gas giant planet?
3) Aiwaz B has 5 "things", including at least one asteroid belt and at least one gas giant?

What am I missing? I bet it's simple and I'm overthinking things....

The A, G and AG just means that there is one or more asteroid belts/gas giants in the system. It's not specified how many. Aiwaz B for example, has 5 "things" orbiting it. At least one of those 5 "things" is a belt and at least one a giant. But there "could" be 4 giants and 1 belt I suppose.


According to a swedish errata for the same kind of table.

Table 13.1 is baffling me as well. The relationship between this chart and the descriptions that follow it seem completely at odds.

For example:
Sadaal/Bahram is listed as having 9G/3A on table 13.1.

But the description on P. 307 says "Sadaal is a binary system. Both stars, Sadaal and Bahram, have one planet each with good conditions for human settlement." So are we to interpret that as out of the 9 planets and the 3 planets, there is a single human habitable world in each system and the rest are typical space wastelands?

On a side note, has anyone gone through and filled out the systems with a more explicit list of planets? Looks like there is 265 planets or so if I am reading that chart correctly. Is there any particular reason not to go through and flesh out the individual systems and stars? Why leave it to individual GMs?

That's correct We left a lot of stuff open, actually most of the systems. That's som each and every GM can create his own Coriolis-universe och systems with their groups. We were hoping people would share the systems. The systems generator in the Atlas Compendium is made for just that reason.

The Sadaal A-system (with the star Sadaal) is not som different from our own (with 9 planets, if you count Pluto) - with just one habitable planet. So one could argue that this is not so weird. On the other hand, Coriolis doesn't atemp to be hard sf. We actually encourage people to create their own systems and planets

The reason we haven't pre-specified the names of all planets and their exact nature, is so that each GM can create their own system/s. Some players/GMs have previoulsy expressed a worry that if they would populate/create a system and the creators later decided to put a scenario or write about that system, it would clash. Plus it's really more fun to leave it to all those who plays to create their own stuff - and hopefully share it here on the forum That's our reasoning at least
