Confused on sword stats

Wed 02 Jul 2025, 10:24

So Estelang and Malanteth's sword are pretty much the same: Superior Fell (+2 Injury?), Superior Grievous (+2 damge?) and Keen, plus their Bane (which is a little different, both bane to Evil Men but the former being bane to Undead and the latter being bane to Orcs). Is this what the stats would be?

regular sword: Damage: 4 Injury: 16 pierce on a 10+
Estelang/Malanteth Damage 6 Injury: 18 pierce on a 9+

Correct? And what does the feature "Bane" do?
Thanks for the clarification.

When used against a Bane creature, weapons of Númenórean craftsmanship with Superior Grevious and Superior Fell add the bearer’s VALOUR to damage and injury, if that's higher than the standard +1/+2 bonus.

OK, great, thanks. I think I get it. So say a character had 3 valour, it would then go from 4 damage to 7 and 16 injury to 19.

Yes, Confused is the right word for a great many things in this game. It is a continual struggle... worth it, I think, but continual.
Anyway, the Hero's Sword, Estelang, is generally described on page 39 of Tales from the Lone Lands. Where is it FULLY described?
I 'googled' that question and was presented with:
--
The stats for the Elven sword Estelang are found in the scenario "Messing About in Boats" in the campaign supplement Tales from the Lone-Lands for The One Ring RPG (Second Edition).Estelang is a Famous Weapon (and a Bane Weapon) with the following exact statistics:
  • Damage: 6
  • Injury: 18
  • Edge (Piercing Blow): 9+
  • Load: 2
  • Reward: Superior Fell (+2 Injury)
  • Reward: Superior Grievous (+2 Damage)
  • Reward: Keen (Lowers the Edge threshold for a Piercing Blow by 1, making it trigger on a 9 or higher)
  • Special Quality (Bane): Bane of Undead and Evil Men
What this means in play:
  • Bane: When fighting Undead or Evil Men, the damage boosts scale. Normally, Superior Grievous adds +1 to damage, but against your specific Bane foes, it instead adds your character's Valour.
  • Piercing Blows: Because of the combination of Keen and the sword's natural stats, a Piercing Blow is triggered on any Feat Die result of 9 or 10

Where does this info come from?
Thanks,

Also, if Estelang is a 'Wondrous Item", then what are its Blessings?
[edit]
Or, maybe it's neither a Wondrous Item nor a Marvellous Artefact... ?
[another edit]
Yes, it's neither... it's a Magical Weapon. Still, back to my original question (above), where are its complete characteristics defined?
Cheers!

p39 of Tales tells you what the qualities are. It tells you it's a sword (I suppose you could decide if it's a plain sword or a longsword), the stats for which are in the CRB, p48. The Rewards and Bane are described on p79, 162, 163. You use that information to piece it together.

Where did you find 'campaign supplement Tales from the Lone-Lands'? I mean, I have all the books here but nowhere is a supplement to be found that says Estelang is a sword with 6 damage.

Maybe it's just AI getting the info from what I originally posted. It then becomes an endless loop as AI gets it's own (wrong?) info and keeps spreading it...
But yeah, they should have just put in a little stat block in the book! Or at least explain again in that spot what is meant by superior grievous etc. and what kind of sword it would be.
