Let’s share tips and takes on the Raven’s Purge Campaign

Sat 20 Jun 2026, 21:34

Hey, all!

I’m an old GM who’s brand new to Forbidden Lands. My group and I just finished a 300-odd session long FFG Star Wars RPG that was our escape from Covid for a couple of years, and discussing what to do next we sort of fell into Forbidden Lands by accident. One week later, I had purchased every official release (except dice and cards – come on, Free League, reprint! :D ), and we’ve started Raven’s Purge. (I should also mention that we’ve played a ton of Alien RPG, and I’m also running a homebrew Legend of the 5 Rings powered by YZE, so Forbidden Lands was very easy to step into).

Well, I feel my enthusiasm firing and want to discuss this game. Most of all, I would like to hear tips, ideas, do’s/don’ts, and just favorite moments for peoples’ running of Raven’s Purge. I would be great if we could collect a few pages of campaign discussion here :)

For context, here’s what I have done thus far:
Players started in a marshland crannogs-&-timber-walkways village in Fangwood, and I placed Weatherstone, Vale of the Dead, & The Hollows nearby. That way, we’ll start “locally” – with much of the early Zygofer historic plots having taken place in their own backyard (which adds motivation for the players) – and expand the world as we go. So far, we’re having a blast with Weatherstone, and I seeded some stuff that might lead the PCs to check out Vale of the Dead on their way home, before finally visiting The Hollow.

Things I plan to do:
I love the concept of Zertorme, and I’m going to play him up as a messiah figure among the galdanes. You know, a messiah who has come to lead the galdanes to true freedom, if you catch my drift. So, the PCs will hear about him & Amber’s Peak early and hopefully assume he is a good guy in the setting, which should make their encounters with him and his plots that much more interesting.

Also, Merigall. That one is basically Lucifer by way of Loké, and I’m all here for it. The PCs have already met Dalb and know there’s something fishy about yellow-eyed creatures running around, (and one PC’s dark secret is that they had a surprise tryst with a yellow-eyed beauty in the forest last year – which is why, in my setting, Dalb was described with a huge belly… which in an upcoming encounter he will soon have lost, having birthed the PC’s offspring). I think I’ll let the PCs run into another child of Merigall along their travels – I’m thinking of an old, 90+ year old woman lying on her death bed when the PCs roll by her family home, and while they are there Merigall comes to say farewell to his daughter – before the PCs pick up that thread in a major way again.

Oh, and I will probably have to run the Wailer’s Hold DriveThru scenario, ‘cause I just know the players will gonna want to try and liberate the old dwarf hold.

Well then, how did things go/are things going in your Raven’s Purge campaign? And if you have finished it, how did it all come together in the end? Who were the PCs’ allies in the final battle, or were they alone in tackling Vond?

Gimme your best, folks :)

PS: By the way, what exactly is the Purge in Raven's Purge?

The land is called Ravenland and if we look at the endgame, the purge is what happens to the land when the players get there. Exactly what and what it means will depend on what ending the players end up doing. The land is purged of something, good, bad, something.

Sure, that makes sense. Whatever happens in the campaign finale, a few baddies should've been "purged" then or along the way thither.

Cool :)
