Symbaroum RPG Anniversary Kickstarter Question

Tue 21 Apr 2026, 15:25

I just just got news of this in my inbox and have it set to notify me on launch.

I have just one question. And it's an important one:

Is this new edition of Symbaroum just an art and layout cleanup to make the rules easier to understand? Or will there be significant balance passes across traits and abilities as well to reflect all the concerns voiced by the community over the years? It's well known by now that many GMs have had to create sometimes several pages worth of house rules and adjustments to stop players from making utterly broken characters for better or worse.

That's it. That's all I want to know. I already have the current core book and APG. I don't really need just a reprint of the existing rules and abilities made prettier. But if there are a bunch of changes to balance out the game for both martial and caster types, I'm totally in.

As far as I understood it when I talked to them last year they intended this to be a cleanup, clarification and balancing of the game.
There's not much information about it on the pre-launch page but I guess we will have more information when we have the full kickstarter page.
Hopefully it will still be compatible with the older material but I doubt the basic system will change that much. Since it will also go through the Davokar region I got a feeling it be compatible with the throne of thorns campaign.

Short answer, yes, we will tweak some traits, abilities and powers. However, it will hardly be possible to make everyone happy - as it stands, some groups enjoy the ruleset as is (with or without the adjustments and clarifications made over the seven printruns), others have crafted house rules that surely differ between tables. As Symbaroum never will be a game that aims to be 100% balanced, there will always be room for (and, according to some play styles, a need for) customization. That's the way this particular cookie crumbles. :-)
