Matter Control VS Telekinesis?

Sat 04 Apr 2026, 22:26

Why would you ever pick Matter control over Telekinesis? They're the exact same power but telekinesis can affect living tissue and it's range scales higher wheras matter control has the same range at all levels. The damage scales the same and the weight scales the same, so why wouldn't you take the ability to affect living tissue and scales your range better?

They are very similar, but not the same.

The Telekinesis description specifies that you can move and control creatures and objects within the weight rating.

Matter Control allows you to control any non-living physical matter, which would go beyond only objects to include any substance (even air, gases, liquids, raw unshaped minerals, etc.), which is how some characters' powers work in the comics, like Atom Eve.

This applies mostly to the powers' utility, but even from an attack standpoint, if your hero was in a place that didn't have any objects to hurl with Telekinesis, you could still do something like solidify the air to make an attack with Matter Control.

If you want an additional option, I was considering house-ruling it as:
a) Telekinesis: move stuff;
b) Matter Control: move OR SHAPE non-living stuff (but leave material the same);
c) Transformation: change material (but not shape or move) non-living stuff.

I'm not sure this is house ruling anything - it aligns with what I responded already, as long as "stuff" for Telekinesis is limited to creatures and objects.
