Protector versus Magic Shield

Sun 08 Mar 2026, 18:40

Hi folks,
i have a question about higher level magic fights.
The protector spell reduces every spell level that is cast on the protected person.
What happens if a mage who is protected by protector casts a spell and an other mage tries to prevent this with a magic shield spell?
Is the magic shield spell reduced by the level of the protector spell?

I know this is a very special question, but my group recently battled Stormhand and Doriath and after that, i asked myself what would have happend when one of the two masters were protected by protector.

Since Magic Shield is cast on a spell-caster interfering with his spellcasting, I would say that Protector will affect the Magic Shield spell.

It is nerfed in the upcoming Book of Magic. How and how much, we have to wait and see.

Ah, you are right.
I have the alpha PDF at home.

Protector is nerfed. You only get a bane per power level when you cast on the wearer of the spell. And the spell ends when the wearer moves.
Both together are a heavy nerf, but the old way seems far to good.
