For the "sens magic" spell, what is considered "magical power" ?

Hi everyone.

We came across an interpretation problem when we wanted to use the "sense magic" spell but I have trouble determining what can be detected.

1.The spell description imply any mages (sorcerer or druid) detect passively when someone use magic or if something is magic-related. So it's a passive effect and there's no need for dice roll, willpower point spending or more, they just know ? It seem clear but I'm a bit surprised it's written here, in a specific spell description and not somewhere in the general magic rule.

2.The spell say you can know what kind of magic is involved. Not surprising when you face a magic user actively casting a spell, but when you speak of an artifact, there's no kind of magic mentionned. They just are.

3.Someone using magic or an artifact is obviously magic, but are there other thing ? Should monster / demon presence be detectable via the passive effect ? I remember reading somewhere (I don't have the book with me to confirm) that magic come a bit from the demon / the mog.

Thanks in advance !

Ok, they could have done that, but since all spell-casters know Sense Magic, that is as good as any. All information in one place.

Artifacts are old and very powerful magic items that is a little bit above the Bind Magic items. It will be up to the GM to decide what Sense Magic can detect when it comes to Artifacts. Artifacts also have legends about them so some information about them is common knowledge (well with a skill roll).

If a monster uses magic, then a spell-caster should be able to sense it, the same about items that the spell-caster holds. The active spell could probably detect magically created monsters like elementals and such. Regarding other monsters, then I am afraid that the boring answer is that will be up to the GM.
