A session 0 intro idea?

Mon 02 Feb 2026, 10:38

Hi everyone, i bought recently the book and have been reading through it (not done) and i was thinking of how i can ease in players into the TGD world since it lore heavy and my idea was running the zero session with the players being kids in the ship city, the opening will be a grandpa telling the short stories from the world , how the ended up in Jamuah, the greatships, delves stories etc and then having them do 'delves' in some abandon/hidden parts of the ship city, this way ill be able to introduce them to the mechanics of the game and the lore of the world without screwing up the actual game. Is this idea possible with the current char gen? and generally is it a good idea to start with ? Thanks!

I was thinking similar thoughts about how to bring new players in. Narratively, that sounds like a great plan! I wonder if it would also be good to help them understand their position as part of the Explorers Guild. What equipment, motives, and history they have with it?

I was thinking the kids are living in the Explorers guild 'daycare' since the parents are missing on a long mission. There they will get more info from the adults in the Guild , without you know.. getting into politics as well listening of stories of other explorers. As for equipment and backgrounds... ill go that most of it is make believe, fake guns and unless specified by me as a real situation or items , the players will take it as kids larping in the inbetweens of ship city.

Fun way to start playing in Ship City!
I can easily imagine how children in Ship City hear stories about expeditions and explorers. These stories inspire what they play in the streets.

So one could build an introductory adventure where the players pretend they take on roles and explore different locations around Ship City, for example, exploring the Cave Gardens as a delve and trying to avoid the gardeners, whom they imagine as various dangerous creatures they encounter, and fruits and other sweet treats growing there are the shards and artefacts.

Then they are drawn to different markets and vendors to catch glimpses of birds, artifacts, and perhaps a view of one of the Great Ships from an observation platform.
