Poison?

Core book mentions several poison conditions (mostly planet atmospheres), but nothing regarding handling 'poison' (a reference to using Disease, but since Disease takes a few days to kill, seems a bit 'off').

Looking at the OGL Year Zero, there are specific rules for poison...curious why these aren't included in the Alien rpg?

Usually the authors are constrained by a page count and marginal stuff might have to be left on the cutting room floor - much like movies trying to fit a running time limit.

How often has poisoning come up in the movies compared to the stuff in the book?

So... that's probably the depressing pragmatic answer since the "mechanics" already existed elsewhere and would not have cost much to drop in ... unless there wasn't room.

Good news is - as the GM - with the mechanics in hand from another compatible source... you can just drop them in and use them or change them as you please.

The Xenomorph "Capture for the hive" or whatever attack uses a form of paralysis poison. Could always adapt those mechanics.

Recommend just using the Disease rules and giving each poison a Virulence rating. Although you might make it hit faster and stronger, so Stamina role right away, and then Stamina roles every turn instead of every shift. Hell, if it's an especially nasty poison, you might even have to do rolls every round in combat

Yeah..also went back through the YZ OGL rules...had some interesting poison vs. mental attacks (LSD anyone?). Thinking the same for diseases would be interesting as opposed to raw 'damage/death'.
