Alien Rules in Other Settings?

Wed 20 Oct 2021, 16:12

Konnichi wa, campers.

I haven’t had a chance to go through the posts much, but I was wondering if folks were using the Alien rules for other settings, and how it was working for them.
For instance, I had an idea for running Mass Effect Andromeda (I know, I know). I’ll post that in another thread when I have something ready.
Thanks!

It's very similar to the Year Zero Engine (free from Free League). I know there are a few settings including Twilight 2000. Each setting tweaks the rules a bit.

There are multiple Year Zero games published, all with slightly different variations.

The Alien RPG version is best suited to high tension games with high freakout potential. So any horror setting would work great with it for sure. You don't want to use the stress mechanics in a pulpy heroic game.

Can confirm it works great for gritty space cop type drama like Outland.

Though I haven't done so myself, I think it would be an excellent fit for The Expanse setting.

Grimmshade ... I've done an alien scenario in the Alien RPG settings ... it's in my files at the beginning I think ... Sergeant Ballard at the end was the final killer and a (goodam) android. It was a fun game ... I should re-do the maps for that.

I thought using this system in a star trek game but without the stress rolls too.

Arthur Dallas’ Outland scenario for Alien is ace.

PS when the drug users start describing their hallucinations “giant spiders in the mine shafts, man”… players gonna grab their guns. :)
