Map and culture questions

Mon 20 Jul 2020, 15:55

So, in the GM's guide, it states that orcs live in Feulenmark, dwarves live in the mountains north of Feulenmark, and elves live in the Dankwood.
Who lives in the villages along the Western coast of Lake Varda?

Whomever you want. I'd take the kin map as more a guide than a dictate. It's easy to imagine a village on the west coast of Varda as an Elvenspring village with a small population of Ailanders as well. Dwarves are not uncommon and the occasional band of orcs come to trade as well. It's not unheard of for boats to make their way across the lake and trade with the Saurians of the marshes as well. The village is run by an eccentric group of shapeshifting druids who believe the only real way to make decisions is in animal form. The yearly council involves a scribe locked in the room with the shapeshifters and they have to pose questions to the animals and interpret their answers by their behavior. There's a vote in Springrise among the Elvenspring of the village as to which animals the shapeshifters must assume for their decision-making (as well as what questions are asked) - and in this way they hope to have some influence over the results. There's a strict taboo in the village about equines who must be kept in a special pen well outside the village walls because of the frequency of griffons in the mountains. As a result, donkeys and horses are very rarely seen.

You could just as easily have the village be primarily populated by Meromannian Dwarven refugees from Wailer's Hold who don't feel entirely comfortable living off the "generosity" of the Candides.

Don't forget the map probably predates the blood mist, so might be 300 years out of date.
