Solo Play?

Wed 22 Apr 2020, 12:34

Is there any support for solo play (meaning, single player, without group or GM) like the one for games such as Traveler or Ironsworn?

In Forbidden Lands there's no built in support for solo, but I've been playing it solo for a little more than a month by now and it's quite easy to do. I manage a party of four characters, having started with three.

I had to come up with a few random tables themed for the specifics of the game (like religion, NPC actions during combat, random encounters for the hexcrawling travels, among a few others), but apart from that I've been basically using the rules of the players guide, no modifications whatsoever.

Having some sets of the custom dice (2 at least) and the initiative card deck really helps the solo play. I don't think I could play it solo without those two. I play old-school with pen and paper so I had ALL the tables printed out. To do that I managed to arrange the tables in groups of four per sheet using both sides and with a big name on top like GEAR, ADVENTURE SITES, CALENDAR, ORACLES, MAPS, etc.

I'd played Ironsworn, it's a great game, but too narrative for me. I needed a more mechanic gameplay so I moved to FbL.

Playing FbL solo feels too much like watching an adventure TV series. It's fun..

I just got all the books (waiting for Bitter Reach), dice, cards, both adventure expansions.
Created 4 characters. Ready for solo play!
Wondering if anyone has tried any of the expansions solo yet?

You could quite easily do aspects solo - exploring the map is mostly rolling Survival and rolling on a table if there a mishap. There's a table for random encounters based on terrain too.

I was thinking that I could quite easily solo a bit of 'mundane life' for my Hunter character, going off into the woods hunting, cooking and tanning hides. Then bringing them back into market to sell. Almost all of that would be skill rolls and random tables. Throw in a couple of random adventures, or even a random castle or dungeon and you're winning!

Buenas, por favor, estoy armando todo para mi primer juego en solitario. Después de generar mi leyenda aleatoria, como hago para saber que he llegado a mi destino???

Hello, please, I'm putting everything together for my first solo play. After generating my random legend, how do I know that I have reached my destination?
