Play by post and xp

Wed 11 Mar 2020, 14:08

I am setting up a play by post on ropl.net and we are close to getting started... Any suggestions on how to handle XP? At a table you give xp at the end of a session, but there are no "sessions" with this format. I don't want to give out too much too quick, but I also don't want the players to feel their actions aren't worth something.

I would look at giving XP at milestones within the adventure.  Or perhaps when the party stop for an evening, and rest?

That's a solid idea. I have never actually ran or even played a game of Forbidden Lands, on average how much XP is dished out per session? Rulebook says XP is only given for defeating "one or more monsters." does anyone give XP for defeating non-monster, i.e, humanoids? What about finding treasure? You only give a point for the first find?

I’d say 2-3 for a three or four hour session is probably average. I like to be a little more miserly than that because once you give it you can never take it back.
