My Monster File

Thu 24 Oct 2019, 10:43

Here is a collection of monsters I have been working on. I found it useful to really analyze the FBL monsters and try to come up with a system for creating new ones. So I have a list of the main kinds of "attacks" or actions that monsters take.

Feel free to post any additional monsters into this thread and I will endeavor to add them to the doc!

This is really good, I am impressed.  Consider some of this stolen for my 5E monster conversions.  I might also adapt some for my monster generator (see below).

Thanks. Have you referenced the monster generator in the Legends and Adventurers booklet whilst putting this together?

Lupex and Andy: I really love both of your methods of converting monsters from d20 systems (OSR or 5e) to FBL. I find Lupex's method (see converting OSR monster thread) is great for getting base attributes right and Andy's is great for creating the Monster's 6 attacks.

As such I have been using a combination of both methods in my conversions and producing some decent results I hope?

I just had a thought that it would be great if you two and other members of the community here could maybe work together to create a consistent procedure for performing such conversions using a combination of your methods. The reason i think this could be good is that we could indeed have a completely collaborative monster document where everything has been created using the same procedure so we know it's good to use. This would allow all of us busy GMs to make use of eachothers work and slowly we could create a huge bestiary for FBL together.

This might be a far flung dream but I would love for something like this to happen!

Sure thing, I'm keen to help with this.

As a starting point, I have created a Google Sheets doc that uses Lupex's method and formulas for converting basic 5e monster stats into FBL. This helps hide the maths!

Oh sweet Andy thankyou, could you add another version for his OSR stat conversion?

I'm envisioning maybe at the end of these stat converters it will say: use these stat values to determine the "skull" rating of the monster and then use the other sheet to make its attacks.

And then maybe a third file that is open to edits so that people can put their conversions there and then you can approve and put them into the main doc or something? Because you wouldn't want people messing with your file probably.
