Re: aquiring talents and Wits roll

Specifically with magic talents, finding instruction seems incredibly important. Even raw has it cost 3x xp without a teacher.

Making a wits roll and having to spend time practicing isn’t much of a hurdle. I haven’t had any complaints yet. I’m also careful to note times where NPCs have offered training as a potential reward or service.
exactly this. Its only really come up once and Im pretty easy going on them finding the right teacher. As long as they are in a civilzed place..Different out in the wild.
usually the players will save up Xp until they get back to town and then see whats available. Then spend XP and have some downtime

The rulebook states you can push a skill check, this is not a skill check :) also, the players will "level up" pretty fast anyway so they don't need to push it.
Just wanted to add say that it's confirmed that Wits rolls for the purpose of learning new talents cannot be pushed. The Year Zero OGL document says so. Only difference is that in the OGL, only one attempt per day can be made. But perhaps this doesn't apply to FBL.

Wits rolls cannot be pushed, because they are not skill rolls, which are the only type of rolls allowed to be pushed. It is even stated in the books: "If you are desperate to succeed with a skill roll, you can choose to push it." - Page 44.
Only one Wits roll can be made per day, it is stated in the "Spending XP" section in the Player's Handbook. - p.40
