Player's Handbook p. 184, in the trade goods list, Cauldron: "Gear Bonus +1 when cooking Food".

The general talent Chef does not ask for any skill to be rolled when preparing Food, so at least one of the descriptions needs to be fixed.

I raised this a while ago, as I didn't get an official response I ruled that a cauldron turns 1 unit of veg or meat into 1 resource dice of food. This would also add 1 units worth when using the chef talent.

Hi!
Indeed. The Cauldron should instead say: "Lets a chef cook 2D6 units of food in a Quarter Day (instead of just D6 units)"

But isn't that what a field kitchen allows but costs 4 silver compared to the cauldrons 18 copper?

Yes it is. This have a feeling that "oh, no we forgot about that, lets shoehorn something in". I will keep my skill check (house) rule. It feels better.

Hi Tomas, thanks for responding to that!

However, as pointed by others, this would attribute to Cauldron the same benefit currently given by Field Kitchen while costing less than half the price, being easier to find (common), taking half of the inventory space and costing half of the raw materials to craft - essentially making Field Kitchen utterly useless.

Ah of course, sorry, I got the cauldron and field kitchen mixed up. :)
The bonus from the cauldron is clearly incorrect and based on a previous rules version which required dice rolls for cooking.
Now, I would instead suggest that the cauldron lets you cook two additional units of food, i.e. D6+2 instead of D6. A field kitchen is still better. :)
