New episode, from Stockholm!

Sun 05 Nov 2017, 21:26

It’s here! Episode 12 of The Coriolis Effect is recorded entirely in Stockholm cafes and pubs (so expect noise in the background), and features the first part of our extensive interview with Nils, Kosta and Rickard of Free League, plus bonus content - Mattias Lilja and Martin Grip of Järnringen talk about the origins of Coriolis.

Hey! Loved the trade episode. Been catching up, and while I may not always agree with your approaches or opinions I love how much thought you put into things.

I may have missed it, but did you guys report back on how the Atheist talent went? With what you were going for, it reminded of the Doubting Thomas edge in Savage Worlds, where you are less likely to get freaked out by spooky/supernatural stuff as long as there could be a rational explanation, but when hit with actual mystic mojo or confronted with unquestionable horror... you’re more vulnerable than most to totally freaking out. I think Mind Points/Stress could play into that well.

Just an idea.

I got back to my books, and found that I was remembering a bit incorrectly; Doubting Thomas is usually just a flaw.

In the Weird War setting, however, they have this version:
Doubting Thomas (Major)
Besides the description presented in Savage Worlds, Doubting
Thomases are just not prepared to deal with the things that make
Weird Wars...weird. Characters with this Hindrance suffer double
Sanity loss when such an event occurs. On the plus side, they start
with a Sanity of +2 for their stubborn faith in the mundane.
Anyway, just a thought for something that could be built on.

I think that in my games I will be taking the angle that, whatever they are or represent, the Icons don't care whether anyone believes in them... but the idea that someone, who not only doesn't believe (I know plenty of non-believers who have superstitions or casually use the religious language of their culture/family's religion) but insists on strictly enforcing a materialist point of view, could cut themselves off from benefiting from that attention? Is interesting.

Gland you are enjoying it. And be reassured we’re not looking for agreement that we’ve got things “right” just sharing our thoughts. As to the Atheist talent, no - neither of us has had a chance to test it out in play yet. I was predicting that a hypothetical player might turn out to be more contrarian than it has turned out so far, not wanting to embrace the religious aspect of the world. But it hasn’t happened yet.

It’s our first anniversary episode! Featuring Group Concepts, plus Vampires, memories, and Corsairs in the Hamam. And we #MinMaxMankind.

We’re having a go pushing these out on Podchaser, and new service that lets you review not just the podcast as a whole but individual episodes, with links for the podcatcher of your choice. And unlike iTunes, you don’t need a credit card to sign up! After a year, many of you will have formed an opinion of the ‘cast. We’d love to see you reviews, good OR bad! (But preferably good)
