Blade Runner: Inspiration: Other sources for setting music

Mon 04 Oct 2021, 10:59

Ok, I get it, the OST is iconic (and over-played). But if you want something similar to that sound, listen to Analog Sweden's Moments Lost - a hommage to the OST. Good for evoking the setting, without being tied to scenes in the movie(s)!

Of course, the old PC game soundtrack as well is a mighty fine addition: https://www.frankklepacki.com/ost/vg/bladerunner

Anything related and similar sounds out there?

(and over-played)

Beg to differ! 8-)

But I'd consider going for Jean-Michel Jarre, especially some of his earlier works.
Before you use the word "XENOMORPH" again, you should read this article through:

I love Jarre (and the original OST - which still get played at home), but prefer non-identifiable music/sounds as background when playing.

Mood setters, enhancing the atmosphere, rather than risk breaking the immersion with players going: "oh, this one! Turn up the volume", or "ah, this was my ex's fav song blabla".

Analog Sweden is perfect in that way.

This could be something if you like to go completely noir: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GCqYCfOFWxw

Or this one with ambient dark jazz (noir list): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b9n97S0pGqc

The first one is very relaxing, while the other one is slow but with a feeling of dark threat. I think I’d mix these two lists with something more electronic (not only Vangelis). Since the setting also has an Asian touch, you could probably find some playlist for that too. As I’ve said in a previous comment, I think both Little Tokyo and Chinatown (well known L. A. noir neighbourhoods) would fit the setting, at least if you add some dystopian elements.

Love theme from the movie Chinatown: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TZ0FyBGVdu8
