Woodmen Cultural Blessing

Tue 19 Oct 2021, 22:54

Hello,

I'm trying to convert 1E Woodmen in 2E.

Any idea for their Cultural Blessing ?

I was thinking, maybe : Inspired on all skill rolls in Mirkwood.

What do you think ?

That depends, if you are playing a Campaign in Wilderland or not. I would say, inspired if in any wood. This is similar to other Virtues like the one for Dwarves, always inspired when underground.

Here's my attempt to convert Woodmen Cultural Blessing from 1e:

Woodcrafty: In combat encounters in the woods, adversaries suffer a (1d) penalty attacking Woodmen in Open, Defensive, or Rearward stance.

This is very subtle. I like it.
But I would permit one skill each from Strength, Heart and Wits to be Favoured while in woods e.g. Craft, Healing and Stealth. But a player might convince other skills to be the same.

I would make it more like Small Folk and by extension Woodcrafty in 1e.

So 1e Woodcrafty says: "When a Woodman of Wilderland fights under the eaves of a forest their parry is based on their favoured wits score."

1e: Small Folk says: "When a Hobbit fights a creature that is larger than them (very often), their parry is based on their favoured wits score."

2e Small Folk reads like this: "When a Hobbit fights a creature that is larger than them (very often), they add a +2 to their parry."

So the 2e Woodcrafty should read like this: "When a Woodman of Wilderland fights under the eaves of a forest they add aa +2 to their parry."

This is even cleaner than mine. Nice cross referencing.
