Stats for the SKS Rifle

Tue 11 Jan 2022, 12:45

Has anyone created stats for the SKS rifle? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SKS

Does the following sound sensible?

Type: Battle Rifle
Ammo: 7.62x39
Rel: 5
ROF: 2
Damage: 2
Crit: 3
Blast: -
Range: 5
Mag: 10
Armor: 0
Weight: 1.5
Price: 150

Thanks.

Wouldn't it just be a semi-auto AK-47 with a 10 round mag?

I mean, for game purposes.

Thanks for this and for all your efforts in creating stats for all of those weapons. I'll shamelessly steal them and save myself a load of time. :)

On quick suggestion from looking through them. You've given the L1A1 (SLR) on your British list a ROF of 4, which is the same as the FN FAL. As the SLR is essentially an FN FAL restricted to semi-auto only I would have given it a ROF of 2 rather than 4. Just a suggestion though.

Pretty much, though in terms of game mechanics the ROF would be lower as it's semi-auto.

Comparing your SKS stats to other self-loading rifles from the Player's Manual, I think you nailed it. I found the range a bit short, but looking at stats for the AKM and keeping in mind the SKS is a bit shorter barreled (being a carbine), this works out, too.

I'd say, go for it. Then we can all steal from you. ;)

Thanks.

I know that the SKS is described as a Carbine but is it really one in terms of game mechanics? According to the Aiming rules, on p63 of the PM, Carbines only suffer a -1 Mod for not aiming. The SKS is longer than an AKM though so should it gain that benefit? I think that, in terms of game mechanics, it should be classed as a Battle Rifle, the same as the AK4 and the FN FAL.

Based on the length, I wouldn't describe it as a carbine. That's more a historical definition in comparison to the Mosing-Nagant and analogous to the M1 carbine of the US. Modern carbines in the military are select fire weapons with small caliber ammunition. The M4 is a carbine, but the AKM is just 5 cm longer.

So it's not just length, it's a combination of things plus tactics how to use it. I'd hand-select those guns for my campaign, to be honest.

The british weapons sheet are made by user Solitare99. I just linked his table to mine, I can't edit it.
