Play-by-Post Games

Sat 25 Sep 2021, 21:17

Is there / will there be a place for play-by-post campaigns or one-shots of The One Ring?

I would love to learn from others by reading their game so that I can eventually run the game myself.

Learning the rules of any game is so much easier for me at the slower pace that a PBP game would offer.

A bit surprised you have not had some feedback yet! I do not feel that I have any great knowledge to answer you, but if the following is any help, then that's great. I can only talk about the single system I use, so there will be plenty of other things available - such as virtual table tops, which hopefully someone else who uses them will answer your query.

I use Tavern Keeper, if you search for this site, there is another site with the same name which is all about running a tavern as if you were an Orc Landlord. Since that is not very Tolkien, you can look for the Tavern Keeper site which has an Orange square as its icon, with the letters tk in white in the middle.
Once on the site (you probably have to have a username ready, and then register to join) look for the tab that says Browse Campaigns. It will give you a drop down of all the different role play games being hosted by members of Tavern Keeper. A lot of different systems are all jumbled together in Tavern Keeper:* D n D 5e, Pathfinder, Shadowrun, etc and in amongst the list, there are games that are The One Ring system. Almost all of them are TOR 1e at the moment. But you should be able to read the posts inside each one easily enough. I found it a great help to read through them.

My own attempt is called TOR 2e Life in Bree and has been running for a few weeks only (obviously!).

* and there are several other games running with guidance on content offered. Adult content means that in those cases.

RPGGeek.com regularly features a "Play By Forum" for the games listed there. I'm taking part in a trial game using the TOR 2e Alpha Rules. I have not yet checked to see if there is a dedicated page for TOR 2e though. We've been playing the test game at in the forums for TOR 1e.

There is a dedicated page now and your ALPHA game was moved there, apparently by the admins.

+1 for Elenath.

I will be starting a PbP game soon, using The One Ring 2nd edition. I'd like at least 1 more, ideally 2 more fairly committed players.
