[Moved] "You can never go below one D6" --> House rule

Fri 26 Nov 2021, 20:41

As the rules state, no matter what modifiers you have, you'll always have at least one D6 and with that a 17% chance of succeeding. By pushing you'll increase your odds to 31%.

Do you allow PCs or NPCs to attempt things that would take them to less than 1D6, or do you just declare a failure? Hitting a driver of a moving car in the head 300 meters away could be a 17% task for a professional soldier, but give the rifle to a farmer and they'll have the same odds..

I'd like to see a couple more "near impossible" steps after 1D6 (before probably going down to 0). Here's my idea:
- One step down from 1D6: Roll 1D6+1D8 and must roll a hit with both dice (to get one success)
- Two steps down from 1D6: Roll 1D6+1D6 and must roll a hit with both dice (to get one success)
- Normal rules for pushing etc. apply for the extra die

Odds look like this:
AA 82%
AB 79%
BB 75%
BC 69%
CC 61%
CD 49%
DD 31%
D 17%
D-1step 8%
D-2steps 3%

Time for miracles! What do you think?

It depends, I don't allow a player to do a called shot if they can't take the -2, but other skill rolls. In general I don't allow it if it is a choice from the player, like the called shot example, he doesn't have to aim for a specific body part, he could just shot and use the location die.
