Beta Feedback - Player's Manual Chapter 4 Combat

Tue 20 Apr 2021, 15:10

Please use this thread to report any typos or errors in Chapter 4 - Combat in the Player's Manual of the Beta PDF. Rules to remember:
  • Before reporting an error, please check and see if it already has been reported, and if so, don't report it again.
  • If you want to discuss or feedback something that is not a clear error, don't do it here - instead, please start a new forum post the specific issue.
  • If you feedbacked on something in the Alpha PDF and it's not changed in the Beta, it's there by choice - we have carefully studied all of the Alpha feedback, so please do NOT feedback on the exact same thing again, unless it's a clear typo or error.
  • Please report your feedback no later than May 1. After this date, we are unlikely to be able to make any further changes.

There is a missing space in the Overwatch text on page 67 in the following sentence: ”For example, if an enemy in yourtarget hex wants to fire a weapon, you can shoot first.”

Page 58 - Clarification
EDIT: REMOVED Crawling question after having the rules better explained.

Page 62 - Clarification
Blocking states that it uses a fast action from your turn. If you go at Initiative 1 and use your Slow action, but not your fast action, and are then attacked at Initiative 5 in Close Combat, can you use the previously unused Fast Action to block? The sentence "You can never save unused action from one round to the next" seems to imply you can't, but that feels like a weird penalty to apply to someone who got the drop on their opponent by having a better initiative. Also, the KAsia example on Page 63 states that Kasia can block because "[she] has not used her fast action in the round" but it's on the Marauder's initiative, so her unused actions should be gone?

Page 63 - Clarification
Shoving and Disarming have a 2 success minimum when opponents are Stronger/Using two hands (respectively). If an opponent Blocks, does that additional required success still apply?

Also, could you not use extra successes in a successful Disarm to take the weapon, rather than have it fall to the ground? Right now, the RAW states "any excess successes have no effect"

Grappling states that once you have grappled an opponent, the only action you can make is a Grapple Attack as a fast action. Does that mean you can attack your previously grappled opponent twice with your two fast actions? Or you can grapple with your slow action and deal a grapple attack in the same round?

It's still the same round. "You can never save unused action from one round to the next" would mean you can't just sit around and then use 2 rounds worth of actions in a single round. All of the initiative dictated turns during one round are still the same round. It seems pretty clear cut for me, not sure how I would word it if I had to break it down even more.

andresk is correct. "Round" means the entire round for all participants. I.e. you can save actions from your turn to use for passive actions (like blocking) later in the round.

Should the -1 Step Penalty for Pistols/SMGs/Carbines and -2 Step Penalty for all other weapons be listed in the main Ranged Combat section? Apparently the "Quick Shot" penalty is a basic, universal rule for Ranged attacks and can only be mitigated by the Aim Fast action. Having it only in the Aiming section (two pages later) seems weird, you have two refer to two spots to get the full rules for Ranged Attacks. I feel like it should be called out specifically in the base rules for a Ranged Attack and then reiterated so it's known that Aiming removes that "Quick Shot" penalty.

Which is why I marked it as a spot for Clarification of the text... as it is, I find it unclear.

Maybe just an added sentence on page 55 under Slow and Fast Actions stating something like
"A character can use their actions on their Turn or save them to be used as reactions later in the current Round (as in the case of a Block), but any unused Actions are lost at the start of the next Round."

Page 66 - Cover
"However, if the Referee deems it likely that your enemy know what hex you are is in..."

Remove the "is"

Maybe reword the whole sentence to be something like "Firing at a target in Full Cover can be done at a -3 modifier, but only If the Referee believes that the attacker knows the location of their target within a given hex.Any locations hit by this attack are protected by full cover." That makes it sound like something both the characters and NPCs can do.

There is s missing space in the second sentence of the second paragraph.
"If you have line of sight to any non-incapacitated friendlyfighter, ..."
