I am working on a German, Polish, Russian Lexicon & Pronunciation Guide for T24K gamers that I will release on the Workshop in a few weeks.
I'm German and served in the Bundeswehr, if you need anything, just ask.
Thank you. If you are open to it, I could pay you, and others to edit (as you have) or proofread it, when it is done.

I'm lucky enough to have gotten an invite to a Roll20 T2K4 game. What's strange about it is that there are only two veterans in a group of 6 players. The referee, who doesn't have any military experience either, asked me not to get all 'old war mutt' with the group. With that request in mind, I rolled up a Polish soldier... a Sierzhant of Motor Transport Troops [aka a supply sergeant].
This led me to start doing some research on the Communist Era LWP [the Polish Land Forces].
Part of that research was looking for some Polish phrases that'll give the character a little bit, well, 'character'. I found this website with a few simple 'traveler's phrases'

Jaxa, I have a question for you if you don't mind...

I'm playing a Polish soldier attached to a US unit. Looking for an interesting name that wasn't stereotypically Polish to an American ear, I found 'Jacek'. Am I correct in pronouncing this name as 'YAH-chek'?

Sure, I'd be open to proofreading. Shoot me a message, once you know more details.

It should rather say: "Haben Sie etwas zu essen?"

While the translation is literally (as in "literally" not as in "metaphorically") correct, it would be considered impolite. German is more formal between people, who don't know each other and that would be certainly true 21 years ago. Saying "du" instead of "Sie" would be fine today, between youngsters... probably. But asking for a favor in 2000, you'd better be nice about it, and that politeness requires "Sie" as a pronoun and a different conjugation of the verb "haben" ("to have").

This reminds me of a scene in Band of Brothers. In the Bastogne episode, Eugene, the Cajun medic, is speaking French with the Belgian nurse. He asks her a question and uses the familiar "tu," then stops and corrects himself with the more formal "vous." Later in the scene, she gives him a candy bar and gently mocks him, saying, "Pour vous." It's her way of saying it's okay to be familiar with her, and marks the start of their friendship.

Yeah, I guess European language branches definitely show the longer tradition of stark class and nobility based division in societies.
