Aka: Irradiated Xenomorph, Glowing Xenomorph

Size: 2.4m height

Type: Mutated Drone

In the aftermath of the LV-426 incident, the nuclear fallout from the atmospheric processor resulted in a nuclear winter on the moon. A team was sent to this colony 35 years after the incident to unofficially investigate what happen to the dead colony. During their investigation, they had a run in with a xenomorph that was mutated by the nuclear fallout.

This while this xenomorph resembles a drone, its chitin is not black. Instead, it’s bluish-white and brightly glows. Its blood’s property also changed from being acidic to a substance like liquid nitrogen. The investigation team was killed by this creature, but the creature also died in the conflict. It is unknown if this creature was the only one on LV-426 or if there are more.

Bioluminescent Creature: Due to the mutation this creature has undergone, its carapace turned into a bluish-white colour and glows from bioluminescence. When in Stealth mode, this creature takes -5 Modification to its Mobility roll when PCs make Observation rolls.

Volatile Blood: Despite its blood having properties like liquid nitrogen, it is highly reactive to high temperatures. If this creature is killed by fire or is on fire as it dies, it will explode. The force of the explosion is equivalent to Blast Power 3. All characters within Engaged range will also suffer 3 Cryo Damage.

Radioactive Creature: Characters that are within Short range of this creature or its corpse will receive 1 RAD every Turn they are within this distance.

Cryo Splash

Cryo splash from a cryomorph will follow the rules as acid splash but with an added effect. Cryo splash will be reduced by armour and every success that is not cancelled by the armour will cause one point of damage per success. The PC will need to make an opposed Stamina roll.

Any successes can be applied to the Cryo chart below. The PC will also need to roll another dice to figure out what body part is affected.

Example:

The cryomorph, after being attacked, get 6 successes to its Cryo Splash. The PC’s armour gets 3 successes. The PC will take three damage. The PC will need to do a Stamina roll against those three successes and blocks one of the Cryo Splash. A 2 on the chart below results in frostbite and a Freezing status. A final roll on a single dice result in a 3, which means the right arm got the frostbite.

Cryo Splash Effects Chart

1 Character suffers no ill effects.

2 Character gets frostbite and will have the Freezing status for one Turn.

3 The skin of the affect body part will be damaged, like severe frostbite. The PC will take 1 Damage and will have the Freezing status.

4 A digit or portion of the body is frozen solid and is destroyed. If it’s the arm, a finger is lost and all rolls requiring the hands will take a -1 Modification. If it’s the leg, a toe is lost and all rolls requiring feet will take a -1 Modification. If it’s the head, the character loses a nose, eye, or ear, and all Observation rolls will take a -1 Modification. If the torso is affected, portions of flesh will be lost, and the character take an additional 1 Damage. These Modifications will remain until the character is healed by a doctor in a hospital or an auto-doc. The PC takes +1 Stress.

5 Digits or portions of the body is frozen solid and is destroyed. If it’s the arm, several fingers are lost and all rolls requiring the hands will take a -2 Modification. If it’s the leg, several toes are lost and all rolls requiring feet will take a -2 Modification. If it’s the head, the character loses multiple parts on their head (such as ears, nose, or eyes), and all Observation rolls will take a -2 Modification. If the torso is affected, portions of flesh will be lost, and the character take an additional 2 Damage. These Modifications will remain until the character is healed by a doctor in a hospital or an auto-doc. The PC takes +2 Stress.

6+ Affected body part is frozen solid and is shattered. It is up to the GM has the character will be affected by this event. The PC takes +3 Stress. If the head or torso is affected, the character is immediately killed; no Death rolls.

My two cents:

Since, during the encounter, the Cryomorph successfully stalks and sneak-attacks a couple of crew members despite its glow, I would not give it more than a -3 mobility modifier on very dark environments, and possibly a +3 bonus on bright, clear ones, such as snow.

Also, I'm not fond of using random permanent mini-mutilations and scars in my games, and from my experience, players do not tend to enjoy them either. The crio-blood overall has the same effects as the acid 'normal' one, thus, no real need to add another layer of complexity (consuming extra time in the additional roll) for something that can be described mostly by narration.
