Rivals over a colony/planet?

Tue 15 Jun 2021, 22:24

Suppose Seegson and Weyland Yutani are rivals over colonizing a planet. What would that look like? Open war? Secret war? Rival colonies?

I have a planet with a Seegson colony that has been exposed doing some seedy stuff by a Marshal while a Weyland android reports everything back.

Any/ all of the above.

The Life & Death comics looks at this bit with Weyland-Yutani claiming a planet and Seegson jumping the claim before the Company set up shop.

I think there will be a diplomatic & politic meeting with ICC "Interstellar Commerce Commission" (and with WY representative + Seegson representative). Every colonisation sites (planets) are debated with the ICC Colonisation Division. Lots of money involved. So there will be an offical attribution of a world to a corporation (WY or Seegson or others). Too much money involved so it has to be offical rights given of the planet. Expoitation rights, terraforming rights, maintain shipping lanes, etc. That's my vision of it.

ICC is a good thought, especially since there was some black jelly involved in the first adventure that the Seegson colony reps were treating as dangerous narcotics. Might be an in for WY to take away some of the claim, or at least joint oversee.

And don't forget, ICC at the base (at the source) is an organisation run (founded) by WY so any other organisation (Seegson, etc.) are doomed. WY will run everything. I don't know if you have read the Colonial Marines Operations book but I'm sure that WY is deeply involved in the Frontier War and I would'nt be surprise that they run The Border Bombers to diminish the military power (USCMC). I'm sure General Vaughn is a puppet run by WY.

Great point! I'd forgotten ICC was basically WY.

One of the more mindbogglingly moronic things the RPG did with the lore.

Does it contradict previous lore?

Why would Burke need to smuggle a dangerous organism through ICC quarantine if the Company effectively owns the ICC? It's like how the new Colonial Marines book says the Company funds the marines; yet the mission to LV-426 was under military jurisdiction and a corporal could nuke a colony over protestations of a Company rep.

There's a few really disappointing stuff ups (or just lazy research) when it comes to the lore as presented in the RPG, which undermines the good work they did in creating the tone and scenarios.
