My game, so far

Mon 23 Dec 2019, 11:24

I mothered our group’s second session last night. I really like how the stress build up when the shit starts hitting the fan.

The group (a medic, a pilot and a roughneck) was hired to discretely transport two technicians to a mining station, search for survivors after an earthquake and most importantly get some drill samples.
The station was recently shut down due to a legal battle with Weyland-Yutani. On the station there is a murderer who has killed the rest of the crew except for a cat and a pilot (who was her lover). He is anesthetized in medbay and the PCs starts waking him up.
Soon they start getting attacked by the murderer (who is a MEDUSA, MEDically enhanced Unknowing Sleeper Agent) while they’re trying to find survivors and repair the drill. The murderer is a small woman but incredibly strong for her size. She’s using the ventilation tunnels to move around in the base.
At the end of the session they finally had all the drill samples and where trying to leave in their vehicle only to be ambushed by a Dog Catcher unit from Weyland-Yutani who is there to capture the MEDUSA and bring her back for evaluation.
The last thing that happened was the roughneck cutting a dog catcher in half with a cutting torch while the others rammed a blocking vehicle to open up an escape route. And the MEDUSA is still lurking behind them, inside the base. Next session will start of in the middle of a fight. Can’t wait...

That sounds amazing! I like how it's true to tone without actually showing any xenos. Let us know how it goes.

Well, the PCs managed to escape from the dog catchers in a damaged vehicle. One of the enemies had a heavy Pulse rifle and wrecked the tractor. The PCs took off on foot, trying to head back to their ship.
The dog catchers repaired their broken vehicle and went after the PCs, unknowing of the Medusa hiding in the back of the tractor.
The PCs ambushed the the dog catchers and managed to capture the medusa. They walked to the ship and took of with their prisoner.
While leaving the system they had to fight a short space battle against the remaining dog catchers. They didn’t hit other!

I will try to summarize my campaign so far. We’re eight sessions in and they have yet to meet a xenomorph (we’ll get there soon). We play in swedish.

Session I
The characters are a pilot, a roughneck and a medic, all ex-military.

Everything started with the PCs drinking in a bar in a minor mining colony, mainly owned by the company Temperton & Friends (an insignificant corporation with relativily small resources).
The mood is low, their captain has died (suicide) leaving the ownership of the cargo ship to his young niece. The obnoxious kid fired the rest of the crew (the PCs) and now they are stranded in this backwater colony.
Suddenly a cyberpunkish looking woman enters the bar, looks around and approaches the PCs. She offers them her ship for free, hands them a digital tablet with the contract already signed by her (and an old copy of Moby Dick for some reason). Moments later a couple of men in suits enters. She tells the PCs to take cover behind the desk. It turns out she’s a suicide bomber and the only ones to survive the blast is the PCs and the bartender.
The bomber is a member of a cultlike movement called TBC, The Big Cleansing, a cultlike Group vaging war against the big corporations. She was there to pick up a new ship for the movement but her cell were ambushed by Weyland-Utani hitmen. She had no choice but to leave a secret message to the movement and give away the ship to a random spacetrucker since the ship orherwise would’ve been lost foto the enemy (yeah, I know).
After being questioned by local authorities they rush to the space port to check out the new ride. There they see kid from their old ship begging for scraps. Apparently the old captain had so much debt there were no way to keep the ship. He begs the PCs for a job but they say ”No way, punk!”

The new ship is a beauty, a small freighter with upgrades making it a stealthier and faster. It’s called The Chameleon. After bribing space port authorities to accept them as owners of the ship they start their new life as freelancers.
A strange message awaits in the ship’s bridge. It it some kind of code and picture of a white whale. After a player’s figurer out the riddle and got the codes that unlocked the hidden weaponry and secret cargo holds of the ship.
Later that afternoon the Temperton & Friends rep Lien Chieng, (Chief of Frontier Operations), her bodyguard and two guys in company overalls approach them. Lien Chieng needs a ship with stealth capabilities for a rescue and salvage mission to another mining station.

Session II
The group was hired to discretely transport two technicians to a mining station, search for survivors after an earthquake and most importantly get some drill samples.
The station was recently shut down due to a legal battle with Weyland-Yutani. On the station there is a murderer who has killed the rest of the crew except for a cat and a pilot (who was her lover). He is anesthetized in medbay and the PCs starts waking him up.

Session III
Well, the PCs managed to escape from the mercenaries in a damaged vehicle. One of the enemies had a heavy Pulse rifle and wrecked the tractor. The PCs took off on foot, trying to head back to their ship.
The dog catchers repaired their broken vehicle and went after the PCs, unknowing of the Medusa hiding in the back of the tractor.
The PCs ambushed the the mercenaries, managed to set their vehicle on fire and managed to capture the medusa. Two hostiles dead and two stripped of their gear including Ape Suits and a Heavy Pulse Rifle. They walked to the ship and took of with their prisoner.
While leaving the system they had to fight a short space battle against the remaining mercenaries who came at them with their ship. They didn’t even hit eachother!

Session IV
The PCs meet up with a Temperton & Friends ship and give them their precious drill samples and the prisoner. Afte talking to company rep Lien Chieng and company scientist Jules Eriksen they learn that their prisoner got the job at the mining station through a company called ORB, the Outer rim Recruitment Bureau. Temperton & Friends now wants to hire the PCs to invistigate and find out who’s behind all this. To do this they recommend that they travel to Gamma Pavonis where there is a ORB office.
They land on the planet Tesoura in Gamma Pavonis. The colony is called Treasure Island and is located on a plateau with breathable air. Otherwise most of the planet is very moisty and slightly toxic atmosphere and rocks covered in alga.
At the spaceport they recruit a kid working as a cleaner to watch over their ship while they’re gone. At the ORB office they take a job to gain trust. The mission is to go to LaSalle BioNational food plant located on the planet and make a medical valuation of the workers.
After a long drive they get to the plant that is surround by two walls. They are greeted by factory manager and a charismatic mechanic named Tex. They are also introduced to the polite android Joseph that for some reason patrol the space between the walls with a flamethrower.
At this experimental food plant something is terribly wrong. The workers are in excellent phywical condition but very aggresive. There is in fact a squad of marines at the base trying to help the base security guards to keep the workers calm. The tension is high.
The medic manage to make some conclusions based on the medical data available. People at the plant have grown and is becoming aggresive except for a handful of persons with special diets.

Session V
Suddenly the medical facilities are attacker by a big crowd of workers. A young marine standing guard is torn to pieces in front of their eyes. They block the doors and manage to escape to the tunnels below the plant together with a panicking marine named private Jim.
The roughneck uses a cutting torch to seal shut the hatch to buy them time. The tunnels have a very high humidity, vision is limited and the walls are covered in alga.
In the tunnels they have to fend of giant bugs.
The bugs were actually animals looking like wood-louse that have grown to abnormal size. They are normally 10 to 15 cms and the top predator of the world but when BioNational messed with the alga to make food production more profitable the whole food chain went crazy.
After fighting giant bugs of different sizes (one very near PC death) they managed to get to the garage where Tex, the mechanic was listening to classic rock on the highest volume, not knowing of the dangers outside. No vehicles are ready for use so they have to help him repair a tractor. Suddenly the garage is attacked by an even bigger crowd of crazies, some with guns and one with a powerloader. The roughneck powers up a powerloader and tries to hold the enemies off while the final repairs are being done. In comes Joseph, the android with the flamethrower. The medic manage to convince him that the crazies are trying to break quarantine and therefor he starts covering their exit with his flamethrower.
When they drive towards Treasure Island they see flames from Joseph’s weapon in the distance. Joseph seems to be holding the fort, for now.

to be continued

That all sounds really awesome buddy, like really awesome!

I can say from personal experience that holding back the Alien is going to pay absolute dividends. With the players expecting it, but not knowing when, and when you've kept them occupied with these other great threats it is going to be explosive when the big ticket name finally steps on in.
