Shadow gain and Shadow paths

This is a post asking you to guess-timate how much characters (on average) progress related to Shadow when adventuring. Using game sessions (*) as a "unit", at what rate will a character gain: a Shadow Scar a Flaw as per their Shadow Path I ask because I want to test the rules with some of...

Re: Lore question about Lindon

I can see the Rangers being Poor because they don't have any real permanent big settlement with manufacturing (*) and don't create any new wealth. What weapons and armor they have is mostly heirloom. Elves, on the other hand, is a different story. When you have the means of building ocean-worthy shi...

Re: Lore question about Lindon

I'll certainly leave it to the authentic Tolkien scholars to answer the OP's questions, but for me this raises what I think is a flaw in the "Standard of Living" as presented in the Alpha. My first reaction to this was to think that players of Elves should just choose whatever SoL appeals...

Re: Councils too simple?

Anyway, as Francesco said, there is no "The One Ring Police", so everyone is able to implement what they want I always hate when designers make these type of pithy responses. Homeruling should be a last option because the instant you change the game's mechanics, you set off a ripple effec...

Re: Keeping Elves out of Bree

And I think Bree was accustomed enough with "strange" folks. Right from the start, there's an important Hobbit community, so they're used to seeing non Humans. And I think that Dwarves traveling to and from the Blue Mountains going through Bree is a safe bet, considering it's the only impo...

Re: Councils too simple?

All the reservations I've had about TNs, Travel, loss of Cultural Rewards, loss of preliminary rolls etc., I've kind of come to peace with and am slowly embracing and looking forward to how this all plays out in a published adventure. The Councils are my last major holdout... I just cannot find man...

Re: A pattern in criticism?

If you check advantages table on page 102, it states that everyone that is attacking a character in those condition get the advantage. So in a sense it is explicitely spelled out I did read it, and twice since you quoted it. The absence of "All" and the presence of the word "may"...

Re: A pattern in criticism?

Sarcastic counterpoint aside, giving one's dice to another player's PC is enough of a special thing that were it allowed by the rules, I'm pretty sure it would be explicitely spelled out. If you check advantages table on page 102, it states that everyone that is attacking a character in those condi...

Re: The Problem With Hope

Also unexperienced adventurers should use a forward stance to compensate for their lack of skill (which makes sense). How does it make sense for inexperienced combatants to take greater risks? "Ok, the four Hobbits take Forward stance. Boromir and I will stay Defensive. We got this." Pipp...
