Re: Councils too simple?

Imagine the goal is to support a character to become the new leader of a faction. At the end of the day if he loses of 1 vote of 1.000 he still won´t be elected So, in this example any one fail (negative vote) loses the arguement? (even with 999 to 1?) By logical extension, no other leader will be ...

Re: A pattern in criticism?

Two things: 1) Those bonus dice are yours only; you can't give them to another player like you could in 1st edition; Nowhere it is written that battle roll gives extra dice only to you . From RAW: canny combatants try to exploit the battlefield to their advantage, for example finding a convenient s...

Re: A pattern in criticism?

It's called Cooperation, rather than Help, but the two are near synonyms. Spending prep dice as help is also a help mechanic... the lack of prep rolls really is a huge change, especially for combat. You can always roll battle before an encounter, which gives you 1 or 2 die extra. You can also do it...

Re: Feedback from Play

But I don't understand what you mean with "the Cooperation rule from 1e was desired by them": how could the old Cooperation rules have made a difference in combat? They only applied to Skill rolls, not to attack rolls, so once again maybe you're talking about combat tasks? My guess is he'...

Re: The best thing of NOT spending Hope AFTER rolling

I'll end with a question. I gather that the way hope worked in 1E is that, if you'd failed a roll, you could spend a point of hope to add the relevant attribute to your roll, if it would convert failure to success. IF I've got that right [...] You are. The TL;DR is: When you make a Test roll and fa...

Re: New Journey System - yay or nay?

It doesn't help because it's not got what I've said is missing; The only benefit on p112 of horses is extra dice on the Marching test. Page 50 mentions speed. Marching tests DO NOT affect travel time overland; the time is a factor of the hexes covered without reference to the quality of the roll. (...

Re: A pattern in criticism?

Help and Extended Tasks The other key was that there was an explicit help and extended task mechanic. It lowered the TN, but required a number of successes across those helping. There was no Help mechanic in 1E. You are referring to Prolonged actions, which are still in 2E as Skill Endeavours Not c...

Re: New Journey System - yay or nay?

In theory I like that sort of thing, with it's promise of being able to generate some exponentially large number of variations, but in practice I think it's prohibitively hard to simultaneously accomplish the two goals of a) Large combinatorial space b) The results actually save the LM time That's ...

Re: The best thing of NOT spending Hope AFTER rolling

Beginner adventurers might end spending up a bit more Hope at the beginning, and rely more on their experience on their expertise. Which is/was also true of 1st edition. Beginning characters had a very hard time trying to succeed in skill tests, even if the TN was lower on average than for 2nd edit...

Re: New Journey System - yay or nay?

So I guess what I want is not a 4x7 grid, but a 56 page book, with 2 pages worth of such scenarios for each grid entry. (EDIT: Of course, that's just for generic events. Good adventures should also have at least some adventure-specific Events, maybe that can be applied to multiple grid entries.) Sc...
