Re: Travel

Swedishtrex - yup, that's it. It's not that some form of hazard occurs too frequently, it's those two top end results that kill a group's principal asset (and in the process completely stuff progress to whatever the actual current plot is) based on dumb (bad) luck. The fact that there is no influenc...

Travel

Not sure if I've got this right: Travelling and hazards, page 135. "At the start of each shift you drive, you must make a DRIVING roll, modified for terrain type, to avoid a hazard." If I fail, I roll on the hazard table I've AGL 'B' and driving 'B' - so pretty good (above average). For dr...

Re: [ALPHA] THE WORLD AT WAR comments/feedback

There are about a dozen people that have posted in this thread regarding the background, and if you include the thread on the UK and a few other comments, there are maybe 2 dozen people commentating. Out of the ~8000 KS backers, so agreed, that is a tiny number. But how does that compare to the numb...

Re: [ALPHA] Illustrations

Yup!

Having been picking holes through (hopefully) constructive criticism, it does seem fair to praise the good bits, and the art work is good, especially the 'chapter front pages' (I'd hang a print of the referee manual chapter 1 illustration up on my wall).

So yup, good artwork!

Re: [ALPHA] The UK in 4E is still a bit... problematic

Dave (udxr226) has actually summed up my thoughts on what the UK should be pretty well. A full-on militarily setting already exists in Poland/Germany, so I would look to the UK setting to be significantly different, not just yet more bandits, but with different weapons and different accents. There i...

[Alpha] Component damage

Since we seem to be starting up new threads as necessary, please allow me. Component damage (page 82). Each component listed can be hit directly, with a 10% chance of being hit, but with the secondary damage effect, damage can move up the chart. Thus, in practice, there is not an equal chance of eac...

Re: [ALPHA] Twilight 2000 and Twilight 2300 aka worldbuilding

Well, 'Howling Wilderness' was in fact a GDW supplement for T2K describing an environmental cataclysm in the US, if I recall (and a supplement that seems to have come in for a lot of criticism). But I think it was always suggested that Germany and Poland were the most severely devastated regions on ...

Re: [ALPHA] The UK in 4E is still a bit... problematic

Dave, Firstly, thank you for taking the time to explain your reasoning. I also know it can be quite disheartening when people start picking apart your ideas, though I am also reasonably sure that we are all doing it for constructive purposes. For my part, i have I guess 5 'bullet point' comments: Th...

Re: [ALPHA] "so i am missing x vehicle/gear/weapon"

Not so much missing as a change: Lose the Saracen from the other military vehicles list - long since out of service. Replace with the Saxon (basically an armoured truck, not an APC, but at least it was in service, and would be right for UK including Ulster, and also BAOR in what had been rear areas)...

Re: The UK in 4E is still a bit... problematic

Good points. I was trying to ignore the 'The Royal Navy get's swatted aside' in the background, lest I was being to nationalistic / sensitive, but the Soviet Fleet has to get all the way around Scandinavia, and passed Iceland and most of Norway, with pretty much all the RN out to stop them, plus the...
