Re: Solo play

But I wonder about scenes and combat. Its easy enough to imagine a system allowing for hexcrawl and exploration on the map solo, be it with one or several characters, but only a single player. But when combat happens and you are supposed to bring out the combat map and markers (miniatures) it pretty...

Re: Are shotguns useless?

I mean, they do 3 base damage and you get +2 bonus... BUT... they also have the Armour doubled special... So... shooting at any fully grown alien, you'll need to do a minimum of 17 damage to even do the slightest of damage... and 21 to kill one outright. And that's the weakest one. To kill a Stalke...

Solo play

Really interested in what and how they will design a solo ruleset for the game? Its one of the already fulfilled stretchgoals and I wonder how serious they are about creating a fully fledged solo experience? I would LOVE it, but it sounds like something that would require its own complete expansion/...

Re: Doubt about the bonus dice obtained giving orders.

Looking at the description of the skill, I'd say it's a one-off thing - 'they get a +1 modification to their roll' not roll s , which I think makes sense. If the recipient wants another buff then the officer has to issue another order. So, as a GM, I'd rule out your 'shoot it until it's dead' examp...

Re: Combat examples list?

Thank you everyone for your responses. It has been helpful. I have subsequently played through some examples solo to put the rules into action - I feel it did help. I think I will, at some point, write a list of examples and put them up here as I do find that a useful medium to learn from and it is...

Re: Combat examples list?

One example I noticed was with some streamed playthroughs where they interpreted the rules that when you roll a 1 on stress dice it meant you automatically failed an action. Whereas others have interpreted it doesn't mean automatic failure, but you need to panic roll and that result will determine ...

Re: Combat examples list?

I dont know of any examples like that but one suggestion is to try a few rounds of combat out for yourself. Sit down at a table with 2-3 characters and a scene youve prepared and play out the combat, acting as each of the players as well as the GM. It sounds weird but take it slow, and try to imagin...

Re: Would "space truckers" have a job post-"Alien"?

My generall approach for future stuff is that humans are cheap, technology is expensive. Better send a bunch of spacebums on the long haul missions, in cheap ships that require more work. Army seems to be well funded, so of course they'd bring a synthetic. Regular space truck crews, no. Unless the ...

Re: Cthulhu RPG

Im all for using a form of YZ in this. Alien is imo its best implementation and with some spin, the stress mechanic could be warped into a fantastic sanity system!

YZ works so great for longer actions and events, searching through a library or performing a ritual for examples.
