Re: Gondor-TOR

I think we do get indeed a lot of information out of LotR. If you take a look how TOR handled Wilderland, you see a lot of world-building there, mostly originated from the Hobbit. Woodmen, Beornings, also the Bardings got expanded. Concerning Gondor and its Cultures, the thing with professions as c...

Re: Gondor-TOR

WHAT DOES THE HEROIC CULTURES OF GONDOR LOOK LIKE FOR TOR2e? For simplification's sake, I suggest that there are two Heroic Cultures that cover a wide range of cultural and social mores. These are the Gondorian Commons and Nobles. This saves us having to parse each culture [Dunmen and Pelargirians ...

Re: Gondor-TOR

So, in the midst of all the discussion about the word /concept of 'race', I took a couple days away from this discussion. Valid concerns were expressed, people were polite and civil, but the issue obviously remains a hot button. And, let's be honest: Nobody ever convinced anybody to change their opi...

Re: Gondor-TOR

I think that Hope ought to be the most precious [no pun intended] resource for Dunedain. I don't think that losing the ability to regain Hope during the Fellowship phase should be excluded, but harder to do is reasonable. And that's a pretty major disadvantage when you're a Hero. People, especially ...

Re: Thoughts on how Free League will get us into Moria

(Ottarus probably never finished all three Hobbit films) But instead of film bashing, I would reiterate that however Sophicated Games does it, it will be splendid (Am I right to say that it might be Gareth R-H?). But will MORIA be a Landmark style or a DoM campaign style? - Guessing the former, but...

Re: Gondor-TOR

My last comments on the subject of 'race'. I really think we need to differentiate the word 'race' in a fantasy context with that of a modern political ethnographic context. This is a fantasy game and not a college level Ethnic Studies course. As to Gondor and the Dunedain therein, my basic point is...

Re: Gondor-TOR

Well, speaking as the guy walking in the minefield here, I also appreciate that everyone is being civil and reasonable. This is not something to be taken for granted, so THANK ALL OF YOU.

Re: Thoughts on how Free League will get us into Moria

Unless its a campaign of landmarks? This is where I hope it goes. A bunch of landmarks, plus a schematic/map...think 'subway map'...showing how the landmarks are connected, with length/difficulty of those connections. With modified journey rules for traveling those connections. (Full disclosure: fo...

Re: Thoughts on how Free League will get us into Moria

But don't get me started on the two Hobbit movies... Which one of the three met with your approval? WITHOUT 'movie-bashing', my biggest single issue was Jackson's vision of Aragorn and how he was presented in all three LotR movies. Please understand that this is entirely different from Viggo ...

Re: Gondor-TOR

Very interesting insight, thanks ottarrus! I have not the time to go into that topic right now (the sun is shining and I want to go outside with the little one). But here are my two cents. TOR avoided the term "race", I think because the authors had a certain "european" view. I,...
