Re: Memories as game features

1. In this video there are several interesting thoughts on what memories, intimacy and touching means in Bladerunner. There are also some quite revealing details about the Russian-American writer Vladimir Nabokov and one of his novels - an obvious inspiration for the second movie. https://m.youtube....

Re: A New Life awaits you in the Off-World Colonies

OK, I think that has been made clear now. I suggest that we return to something else: what could the off-world colonies bring to the urban L. A. neo noir setting? You could read about the colony Calantha here: https://bladerunner.fandom.com/wiki/Calantha I think stuff like that could be cool to use ...

Re: History of the ALIEN Universe

I guess we have already got more or less out of topic... But I’ll try to sort my thoughts on some of the stuff we have discussed so far in this thread: 1. Contradictions or not. As I’ve said above: the internet is full of (often upset) comments about the similarities and differences between the Spac...

Re: A New Life awaits you in the Off-World Colonies

Well, you can link them in your own campaign, but a publisher like Free League can’t because Bladerunner and Alien are different properties owned by separate companies. To merge two different franchises is very hard from a copyright and brand point of view. You would mess with two franchises at the ...

Re: A New Life awaits you in the Off-World Colonies

Exactly. The off-world colonies should (must?) mean something in this setting. In a way it’s kind of like another city or continent. People go there and there are news and rumours coming from those other places. In Bladerunner you might also encounter people from New York, but you don’t need a Manha...

Re: A New Life awaits you in the Off-World Colonies

Outland is a separate franchise, right? It’s all about ownership. Bladerunner isn’t Outland from a legal, copyright point of view. I’d say that combining two separate franchises and making that a new canon would be very hard. It would be a total rebranding that I find very unlikely. Of course, you c...

Re: A New Life awaits you in the Off-World Colonies

The two Bladerunner movies are neo noir movies set in L. A. It’s a very specific genre based premise. What genre would be used in an off-world supplement? Of course, you can imagine someone like Deckard leaving Earth for some kind of mission, but would it be cool? Would it still feel like a Bladerun...

Re: A New Life awaits you in the Off-World Colonies

Since Alien and Bladerunner are two separate franchises with different owners, I doubt there will ever be any kind of crossover. But of course, fans could do whatever they like in their own RPG campaigns. Personally, I don’t think the two franchises go very well together (replicants aren’t androids)...

Re: History of the ALIEN Universe

Of course, knowing the master narrative or metaplot is what you are supposed to do as a GM. I’m aware of that. You describe the somewhat strange contradictions in the movies - I’m talking about the Engineers and the very tall fossilized Space Jockey. As you probably know, the internet is full of ran...

Re: Inspiration: Other sources for setting music

This could be something if you like to go completely noir: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GCqYCfOFWxw Or this one with ambient dark jazz (noir list): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b9n97S0pGqc The first one is very relaxing, while the other one is slow but with a feeling of dark threat. I think I’d mi...
