What sensors would a ship in Alien have?

I know they won't have the magic Star Trek sensors but I figure they'd have more advanced versions of common sensors. I'm asking because my players are going to be encountering a ship giving off a distress call and I'm sure they'll ask. Things I think a sensors roll could determine: Where the other ...

Re: [Moved] Survival Rate?

It's worth noting that Cinematic and Campaign play are vastly different. In Cinematic you're tossed into the meat grinder and it's expected you'll have 1 or 2 survivors at best. Campaign, well, despite being named Alien you better keep the Xenomorphs away for awhile.

Re: Stellar type data - real world - near stars

Telescopes largely lose their function once you start travelling faster than light. Sure their useful to count planets and know where stars are, but when even the nearest stars are over 4 years away and others are 1000's away, you may as well just send a ship out as likely something has happened in...

Re: [Moved] Survival Rate?

I've only had one session so far but I think survival is going to come down to 2 things: 1) How much combat do you have? Combat seems to be pretty brutal in this game so having it as often as you might in other games is going to result in PC death sooner or later. 2) How often, if at all, do the Xen...

Re: Starting my first game tomorrow! My experience as a GM so far

I did some thinking and my biggest issue was letting them land and mount the crane with only some time and a heavy machinery roll instead of a drydock. I'm going to tell them it's jury rigged so everytime they use it they have to roll a single stress die. If it comes up as a 1 it'll tear loose and c...

Re: Stellar type data - real world - near stars

The Covenant references are there. At the very bottom of the map is an arrow pointing down that says Trailward. It lists Sector 87, Origea B and some other stuff as being there. Sector 87 is where Planet 4 was and the Covenant was going towards Origae 6 before it changed course. So, we don't know ho...

Re: Starting my first game tomorrow! My experience as a GM so far

For air, food and drink I have them roll once a day when they are out of hypersleep. For fuel I have them roll on approach to a destination and on departure. If they make planetfall they roll once on landing and once on liftoff.  So far it seems we'll probably average 1.5-2 sessions between refills ...

Starting my first game tomorrow! My experience as a GM so far

So, my game starts tomorrow. Well, in about 12 hours technically.  I've got 5 players and made 3 NPCs. They're playing space truckers and are going to be independents. I grabbed the maintenance rules from Coriolis and made dice for fuel, food, water and air. If they do maintenance/service it'll refi...

Re: Character "nationalities"

In a lot of sci-fi nationality comes down to whichever space government you belong to. So it might be as simple as treating the United Americas as your "country" and the colony you are from as your state/province/city. "I'm from Acheron  in the UA" might be something you'd hear. ...

Re: Trying to make sense of "Xenomorphs"

If we go by the comics and novels the differences really do come down to "parent" species. In one of the novels, Xenos are born from chimpanzees and have longer forearms and are much stronger than traditional Xenos but less intelligent than the so-called "Big chap."
