Re: [ALPHA] An attempt at summarizing the world building discussion

I am optimistic that, if criticism is constructive, the FL folks will draw from it - many of us have tried hard to make as few changes to the end result as possible (or ones that expand possibilities), precisely to limit the disruption to the overall world building. Otherwise, what is the point of s...

Re: [ALPHA] An attempt at summarizing the world building discussion

I think my main concern really is what becomes canon when the game is finally released, and how much that canon might affect the creation of future material in support of the RPG. This means that the details and history of the setting are important, otherwise the finely crafted RPG itself might run...

Re: [ALPHA] An attempt at summarizing the world building discussion

I have great respect for Chris Lites as a writer of games and speculative fiction. He is undoubtedly one of the best people possible to have overall responsibility for writing the world chapter. However, to the best of my knowledge, his background in real-world military matters is not very extensiv...

[ALPHA] An attempt at summarizing the world building discussion

An attempt at summarizing the "world building" discussion - in a constructive way [Cross-posted from FB page] Now that we have had a few days to discover all of the goodies our friends at Fria Ligan have prepared for us, I wanted to take a few minutes to try and summarize the discussion. Indeed, thr...

Re: [ALPHA] "so i am missing x vehicle/gear/weapon"

Hello, I will add this in the Dropbox but the one French vehicle that should be in there, because players actually have a chance of encountering it, is the VAB (véhicule de l'avant blindé) - the French equivalent of the Fuchs, but which had a myriad specialized versions (for instance the VAB T20/13 ...

Re: [ALPHA] Some tweaks on the French situation

Hello "Pansarkott" (sorry, I don't have your first name) your version could work, but the FL backstory mentions that the first official act of the Junta is to seize NATO supply depots, which led me to think they are more "isolationist" (for lack of a better word) than the previous administration. Th...

Re: [ALPHA] THE WORLD AT WAR comments/feedback

Hello Arrigo, well, I am ALWAYS optimistic :-D I do lower my usually exacting standards a bit for an RPG, as long as the crazier stuff, which belies basic logistical, economic or military logic (like the "Soviet armada" invading the UK from the Swedish coast.... sorry FL - I have proposed an alterna...

Re: [ALPHA] Some tweaks on the French situation

Hello, It could have been interesting, but the dates don't work: the decision to retaliate or not, and to what extent, needs to be taken at the very end of 1998. Operation Reset occurs some time in 2000. Now, it is likely that French factions are in this somehow in 2000: some to help, some to hinder...

Re: [ALPHA] THE WORLD AT WAR comments/feedback

The 1st ed background was .... a mess, and frankly ridiculous in some aspects (the Germans invading Poland, France sitting it out .....), so I fully support the current rewrite. Small tweaks on the main issues raised (Soviet dominance on the battlefield - now explained by tac nukes / the UK situatio...

Re: [ALPHA] Some tweaks on the French situation

Hello, I should have been clearer: the coup is triggered by the refusal of the civilian authorities to go along with Kryushkov's "nuclear cease-fire" proposal - otherwise, as you point out, it is illogical. Why would a segment of the military oppose full retaliation? It makes sense if they have a "F...
