Re: Designers' Journal

EDIT: I have just realised that this bit: "The creature must not have already taken its turn yet this round and retains its original initiative count for future rounds ." implies that each party member can only have this feature used on them once per combat encounter. Or did I have this wrong? . Ah...

Re: Translating the threat of Symbaroum into 5e

I think there's a lot of opportunities to use conditions to represent sudden reversals of fortune.

Of course, players will alway want (deservedly) a fighting change as well.

Re: Designers' Journal

So the Kickstarter campaign (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1192053011/ruins-of-symbaroum-for-5e) is well underway and I figured it might be worth revisiting some topics here, and maybe trying to expand upon them. Please note that all of this is draft material and may or may not appear in the ...

Re: Translating the threat of Symbaroum into 5e

Any game design is a balancing act between familiar elements (so that folks can say 'oh, this works like so-and-so ') and unfamiliar elements (new or different things you must introduce in order to represent the setting). The same holds true for monsters and combat in Ruins of Symbaroum . For experi...

Re: Feedback on rules giving permanent Advantage

Good points for consideration. We are certainly looking at fine-tuning everything as we prepare the game for (hopeful) release. Of course we want Goblins to be hard to hit (got to make up for that D6 Hit Die somehow) but always-on disadvantage might be too much. As for Monster Hunter, of course send...

Re: Designers' Journal

I heard about Symbaroum and want to get involved! My question is, should I wait for 5e? My worry is I buy the books now, only to replace them with 5e books. Thanks! . The original system is not going away and will always lead the way in terms of adventure releases. If you're familiar with 5e and yo...

Re: Designers' Journal

Hey - really looking forward to the next update/release! My group has done some really strong work in home brewing the rest of the races and classes which, while admittedly biased, I think they've done a great job (though I made the mistake of sharing the Advanced Player's Guide and they're latched...

Re: Designers' Journal

Just curious, any juicy news on the progress made? . Juicy is hard to say, as we're spending our time right now in some final adjustments for the player-facing rules when we are not in the deeps of Davokar, working on exploration rules and statting up various beasties. There's going to be some very...

Re: Designers' Journal

Given the fact that Jacob was one of the main designer behind Adventures in Middle Earth, I think it surely look promising!
He should do a 5e conversion to 5e! It surely would improve the game!
.
