Re: Anyone else bothered by the armor values?

I think it's important to note that most systems in 4e are simply designed to be approximations of actual values and scenarios. If you're looking for War Thunder type simulation out of a game that was purposefully designed as an abstract system, you're going to have a bad time. I don't say that to b...

Re: PCs too rich early on - What to do?

Just as another thought - if your players are "tactical operators operating tactically", maybe throw them in situations that are dangerous for even the most qualified specops soldiers - urban warfare. Send them into buildings that are full of enemies in prepared positions and see how they ...

Re: PCs too rich early on - What to do?

It sounds like your players optimized toward ranged combat quite heavily, which makes sense. That's something a lot of players new to T2k will do. When players do that, however, it becomes incredibly difficult to have mastery in other skills. In my experience, it's incredibly rare to find a player w...

Re: PCs too rich early on - What to do?

So, how do you guys run this? Any suggestions as how to do this in a satisfying way, both to get the tone right and still have the game seem plausible? If you're PCs have too much gear then I'd suggest that you get them into a firefight where they are outgunned and have to withdraw. That will "...

Re: Knife - Meet helmet

Relax bud I wasn't taking a shot at you. I had just assumed that everyone was already clear on the rules as written, which is what led to the original question. I could absolutely be wrong about that, so your post was still worthwhile.

Re: Knife - Meet helmet

Called shots, and the -2 modifier, are only to bypass the random location die. The most accurate a called shot can be is "head". Perhaps the character had bad luck and the target moved so that their helmet was in the way or did so in a manner that caused the attacker to abort. Either way,...

Re: PCs too rich early on - What to do?

As a very long time player, I would only ask the question - Is this really a problem? Twilight 2000 doesn't have typical RPG player advancement like a lot of games do. There's no leveling up, per se. Acquiring loot is one way for players to feel as though they're progressing in the story. As another...

Re: Knife - Meet helmet

This is a topic that came up on the 4e Discord a little while back, and unfortunately it didn't have a clear consensus on how to handle this kind of situation. What we know is that when attempting to pull off such a move, there are a few things to keep in mind. In all likelihood, the player has alre...

Re: How do you guys handle webbing and holsters and such?

Mostly handwave it for mechanics purposes. I do use it however and encourage players to note what they're wearing, for flavor, and I think because it helps with Theater of the Mind.

Re: Who is Twilight: 2000 4e for?

Agreed that it's for anyone and everyone. I also cut my teeth on v1 as a teenager before moving onto 2.2, and have a lot of great memories of the OG box set and the Big Yellow Book. With that said, I've been really happy with 4e so far - the ruleset is light and lean, and while I occasionally find m...
