Re: Travel

From a game design perspective. we also need tools to keep players from just driving off the map in a single shift. That said, we'll have another look at the hazard table before the game is finalized. Surely it would be more likely that the vehicle gets bogged, or dirty fuel means the carburettor n...

Re: [ALPHA] Character generation

You're entitled to your opinion of course, but for the record, our design philosophy is simply not, in any our games, that "more granular = supports long term character growth". I know that many older games, previous editions of Twilight: 2000 included, had much more granular rules (more skills, mo...

Re: Piloting aircraft - skill?

Aircraft should not only be in use, but they should be in common use. No, not Fast Movers. Combat Jets. Ultralights. Crop Dusters. Civilian Light Aircraft. They can all perform militarily useful roles (Recon, Transports etc) ... and even be armed. Even Swedish ones ... Malmö Flygindustri MFI-9 Junio...

Re: [ALPHA] Character generation

As the Character Generation system stands I believe it is too granular (too little differentiation between levels, too few levels) and has too few skills to make for a game which will support long term campaign style play. Yes, I know, there will eventually be a Base Building section in the GMs book...

Re: [ALPHA] Horses as starting Vehicles

Exactly so. The Swedes had Bicycle Infantry units well into the late 1980s and (at least according to a photo in Wikipedia) they were in use in some capacity as late as 2004. The Swiss had a Bicycle Infantry Regiment as late as 2001 and have recently purchased in excess of 4000 examples of a modern ...

Re: [ALPHA] Crossbows are NOT Super weapons compared to Bows

Longbows may be manufactured by civilians to hunt with but are unlikely to be anywhere like the draw weight of a medieval bow that required practice since childhood to draw the warbows. What there would be are sporting and hunting bows that are different in both materials and operation that a old s...

Re: [ALPHA] Some suggestions for armored combat

And WarPac tanks should be at a significant disadvantage in Hull Down positions due to their lower profile forcing them to expose more of their turret and hull compared to NATO tanks (except the S Tank, or course!). Re: [ALPHA] The UK in 4E is still a bit... problematic

so we are at comic strip level... no wonder the reaction... :? Well, we are all playing “let’s pretend.” :) Not really, we're (mostly, here at least) grognards with a considerable understanding of Cold War realities, Geopolitics and things like Logistics ('In war there are only three important thin...

[ALPHA] Horses as starting Vehicles

Instead of a Dirt Bike (or possibly an addition to the Group Gear) should be Civilian or Military Bicycles or Mopeds. The chance of having Horses is FAR too high given how many there are in pre-WW3 Europe as compared to the WW2 period ... Germany, for example, had around 3 million horses in 1939 and...

Re: [ALPHA] No Differentiated Turret Armour values!

If you dislike something I hope you add it to the dropbox rulebook. Even though FL lurk here posts can drown here among all the threads (both good and nonsense) that tends to appear here. The problem with that is that it takes SEVEN STEPS of authentication with pictures of Dice where there are two ...
