Re: Ammo Dice...why?

When it comes to suppression , that single shot a sniper fires once in a while is very powerful. Machine gun bursts is one thing, but it lacks that feeling that the enemy is out to get me . There was an incident at Anzio? Salerno" one of the two when a whole Division (?) went to ground because of r...

Re: [ALPHA] Scrounging, Foraging, Hunting limitations

Fishing is the easiest way to get food, if you are good at it. Grenades ! Best way of fishing ever! In a 10 klick wide hex the chance of anyone hearing it is ... so minimal as to not be worth considering. Re: [ALPHA] Crossbows are NOT Super weapons compared to Bows

Fundamentally both come down to energy:impact area. And impact area is ALL about the head. Not entirely true. My understanding (from re-enactment experiments) is that the shafts of both arrows and crossbows actually made it more difficult to penetrate medieval armour (padded cloth through to plate)...

Re: [ALPHA] An attempt at summarizing the world building discussion

1. Start the timeline earlier I think this is the simplest solution ... as it is they're just force fitting a square peg into a round hole. Re: [ALPHA] THE WORLD AT WAR comments/feedback

And that is a problem <sigh> a number of backers (possibly large, possibly small) expected it to be both ... To some extent, of course it is both, there is certainly plenty of military simulation in the game, but at it's core, it's a survival roleplayig game. And I think we have been very clear abo...

Re: [ALPHA] THE WORLD AT WAR comments/feedback

Wow. It looks like a lot of you have Political Science degrees. Double History Major (Ancient/Medieval and Modern) with a Minor in Government & Public Administration (aka 'Political Science') ... and lived through the period in question. So I guess I qualify :-) And that may be the market portion t...

Re: [ALPHA] THE WORLD AT WAR comments/feedback

But, as I have been trying to explain, time and time again, this is an open-world survival game, not a military simulator, and for the core premise of the game to work, there cannot be large, organized friendly forces near the player characters at the start of the game. And that is a problem <sigh>...

Re: Everything I always wanted to know about...Batteries

Are military equipment batteries re-chargeable? Most of them, yes. For stuff like radios, certainly. Well, I'm quite out of date, but I trained as a Company Signaller when I was in the CMF (Citizen Military Forces - now the Army Reserve) in 1974-5 and the radios we were most likely to use were AN/P...

Re: Travel

One solution to vehicle-killing failures like a blown engine is to allow the PCs to detect the impending failure before it occurs. (A Tech task.) So if they continue, they get the failure, but they can also choose not to continue and must then make repairs on whatever underlying problem exists, scr...

Re: [ALPHA] Character generation

Don't get me wrong, I have MYZ, Mechatron and Elysium as well as Forbidden Lands and all of the supplements for it short of the latest (Mellified Mage - probably a 'surprise' Xmas pressie) and I am generally happy with most of the things they do and the way they do it ... But they are not realistic ...
