Re: How much do Weyland-Yutani know?

I enjoyed River of pain but thought if anything it made the aliens plot more contrived. So they have the planet, know the ship is on it but still left terraforming occur and when they have the coordinates send wild catters out rather than wetland security. Yeah sometimes for me I have to imagine WY...

Re: Campaign Mode Examples

I thought I'd give an example of how I'm approaching things. My game starts this Saturday. We decided on Space Truckers because I didn't want the game to be about nothing but shooting people and/or aliens and the players didn't want to be colonists. (Sidenote: Once we get the tools in a supplement I...

Re: Is the thematic core of the Alien franchise Marxist and Feminist?

As for feminism. I guess so if we are defining feminism as any time a woman takes the lead role. Personally I'd just call it damn good casting and wish more studious would apply the best person for the job mentality. In the 70's, an action movie with the lead character being a woman was seen as a f...

Re: Experience Points

In other Year Zero games I have played, the players earn about 3-6 xp per session. This is normal and unfortunately doesn't make for great long-running campaigns where characters seldom die. There are different ways to get around this, like: - toning XP gain down dramatically -increasing the lethal...

Re: Trying to make sense of "Xenomorphs"

I would posit that the intent of this thread as conveyed in the OP and the title is more or less impossible under these conditions for most of us. What do I mean? Well, simply put, Vader seems to want to figure out how to classify the Xenomorph and such but only accepts what is on-screen in two of t...

Re: How much do Weyland-Yutani know?

I think you have to assume that there is some factionism in WY, to the point in fighting actually is their downfall. Consider that in Alien they knew about the Alien, but then come Aliens they have lost it, building instead a colony rather than a research outpost. Burke in Alidns hears Riplys story...

Re: CoTG in one 5 hours session - possible?

I did it in that time. Act 3 ended up being super rushed because of it. I dropped the pirates totally and it just turned into a scramble with the survivors trying to destroy the ship and escape before it detonated. In my case I didn't have a choice. It was a test run of Alien between regular session...

Re: Docking umbilical

Generally I think this is up to you. I mostly picture umbilicals as roughly hexagon shaped with rings and a plastic tube that holds the air. The far end has some sort of "mating" port to attach to the other ship. The big question is, is it something automated, where you match speed and position and ...

Re: Costs not in the core book (fuel, air, lodging etc)

A Necro but that Coriolis recommendation was right on. It has a maintenance sidebar. For a standard port it's 1/1000th of the ships cost and covers food, drink, air and fuel. You have to make a tech roll which I figure would be heavy machinery in Alien. If you fail you spend half the cash but don't ...

Re: Is the thematic core of the Alien franchise Marxist and Feminist?

Ash and Bishop aren't front and center examinations of humanity.  You could maybe make an argument for Call, but I don't get any cyberpunk vibe for her either. That Ripley has distaste for synthetics is a thematic element examining humanity and how it's defined; albeit perhaps to subtle for you, it...
