Re: Workable Rules for larger engagements

... To involve all the Players, I made each one a captain of a Beorning unit. The actual combat was based on Unit v Unit actions per round of combat. It was designed to be an exact parallel of a single PC fighting an NPC in "normal" close combat. The higher the quality of the unit, the be...

Re: Wound? What Wound?

good question, and my guess would be the healing time is heavily abstracted *and* reduced to make wounds less annoying from a gaming fun perspective. given that the second wound has you making rolls against dying and that barely not dying just adds another 10 days, I would assume wounds also cover i...

Re: How often can a player receive First Aid?

... B is in immediate danger of death. D E and F can all try and save them as things are desperate for A. It makes no narrative sense for E and F to wait for D's treatment to work - they are likely bleeding to death or choking away - So I would permit their rolls as well inside the same hour. If an...

Re: How often can a player receive First Aid?

my read is the same, one (successful) first aid per wound until it is healed. If I right it correctly, additional wounds directly lead to dying and you get a healing roll to avoid that, but since you add the 10 days to your previous wound time any additional wounds are more modifiers to your origina...

Re: Mounted Combat and Animal Handling Rules?

Hi All, I can't find rules for animal handling or mounted combat. Did anyone come across anything? I know horses are rare in the North and often used for carrying goods only but I intend to play a prosperous mounted Barding Messenger seeking out the shadow rumors surrounding the Shire. Also, animal...

Re: Free League announces The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying for 5E

... It's ironic because last night I was trying to figure out whether I had time/bandwidth to learn The One Ring and present it as an alternative to my 5e group. Personally, I would still heavliy recommend The One Ring. I think it's a great system, and the mechanics are fitting for the books. I don...

Re: Convince me Load/Endurance is fun

for me it's one of the nice abstractions TOR offers. As others mentioned it's comparatively easy to keep track of and shedding some stuff if you fear weariness actually seems thematically appropriate. That said, there isn't that much to shed as only weapons and armor are tracked for load - if I reme...

Re: Alternate Middle Earth setting

One small change: When Bilbo has his chance to show mercy to Gollum he kills him instead (and lies about it later?), tainting his spirit. What happens from there? nice one, with consequences that would short term be more subtle although have quite interesting effects down the road. An interesting q...

Re: Alternate Middle Earth setting

Generally, I love the concept of alternate timelines where X did or didn't happen. A lot of epic stories and IPs have - for dramaturgy reasons - quite a few direction deciding plot points or single points of failure, that could drive the story on crazy tangents. For middle-earth and if you want to k...

Re: Creating new patrons?

It makes me want to put together a Butterbur running the Prancing Pony as a patron. It would help give a good reason to be in Bree. don't forget the twist to make Butterbur the local crime lord whose absent-minded and friendly appearance is just a facade for the outsider. all the locals know, no on...
