Re: The Lost Worlds Campaign - Story 4 Play Report

Let me just add to the praise choir that your gaming reports are immensely valuable to others, _ArthurDallas_. Alien RPG scenarios can be a bit daunting to prapare, and having the option of looking over how other gaming groups did it is a great resource; not to mention the maps and stuff you create....

Re: Xenomorph Swarm (house rule)

Thinking some more on this, I do agree that a straight-up, static loss table is very functional, I do prefer to act for both sides to maintain the drama. What I will probably do, is to collapse the xenos into a Swarm as discussed above, and the do the same for the combatant NPCs (also as discussed a...

Re: Xenomorph Swarm (house rule)

Thinking out loud, the next question then becomes: how do we simplify/speed up combatant NPC actions in the Swarm rules? Giving all NPCs the same Initiative goes some way, but it would be nice to find a system for resolving their collective actions, too. Hmm... Random thought: What if we collapse al...

Re: Xenomorph Swarm (house rule)

The signature attack of the global swarm could be used for extra characters (NPCs) only. Oh, now THAT's a good point! I like that! Half the hassle for the GM is handling NPCs in the mix, and this would greatly simplify that, too; basically, this "mass combat" system would simplify xenomor...

Re: Dog Catcher weapons?

So, new thoughts on the Dog Catcher pole thingy ("catch pole and containment gear" per CMOM p.220), 'cause these haven't been detailed anywhere, right? How does this look to you guys? CATCH POLE: Bonus +2, DMG 1, RNG Short*, Wt. 2 Enc., $50, Armor Doubling, Catch Noose** *This is the main ...

Re: Xenomorph Swarm (house rule)

I've also been playing around with ideas for giving a character a break, in some way, if they manage to kill off a Xeno. (Of course, one would check for acid first). The thought here is that when a PC/NPC inflicts enough DMG to remove the next member of the Swarm, they "make a hole" and ge...

Re: Xenomorph Swarm (house rule)

Thanks, mate :) Let me see... I was thinking collective Initiatives for the Xeno Swarm (typically two cards, but some have Speed 3), +individual Initiative cards for each PC, and possibly one collective Initiative slot for the NPCs. That's what I would normally do, just to keep things easy. (I shoul...

Re: Xenomorph Swarm (house rule)

As for the humanoid combatants, I'm thinking of letting them inflict DMG to the swarm as a whole, and simply subtract from the total every time enough DMG is caused to take down a xeno (and I wouldn't roll on the xeno critical table for this, instead simply remove them once their Health runs out). T...

Xenomorph Swarm (house rule)

"They're coming outta the walls. They're coming outta the goddamn walls, we're f***ed!" -Hudsen, Aliens Hey, all :D For a while now, I’ve been longing for a way to GM large groups of xenomorphs in action; I’m growing weary of keeping track of logistics (which xeno is where and how many He...

Re: DMLA-A-265's Dropships

Yeah, the only ways my complicating things are relevant here is when considering troop capacity for space ships and dropships. I assume, for instance, that the 40 people troop capacity of a Bogenville means just that, "troop" capacity, and does not count command crew and such, and neither ...
