Re: Free League Grid size

Note that because there are no real figures for the game and hexes represent 10m rather than some other mini-friendly distance, any size hexes you use will work fine.

If you do want to coopt 1:100/15mm scale Team Yankee minis or similar, 4 inch hexes work well without restating game stats.

Re: Handedness?

The game doesn't differentiate left/right for injuries, so I don't worry about it for attacks, either.

Re: Campaign Starts - Getting the Party Together

Assumptions of the setting include that civilians aren't really civilians anymore and units are inherently multinational due to the vagaries of war. The question is how the "outsiders" joined the unit and in what capacity before the events of Session 1. Having Session 1 be the equivalent o...

Re: Ammo spent

The house rule I'm playing around with is two-fold. 1) no self-loading weapon can use 0 ammo dice in combat. You've got a finger and a gun that supports "pull trigger, repeat if necessary," you're going to use it. 2) each level of CUF can reduce the ammo expenditure of one ammo die to 1. C...

Re: I'd like FL to release more battle maps

I'd still like an edition of the maps with 10cm hexes so I can plop down my Team Yankee minis, even if just a pdf I can take to a print shop or set up my printer to poster print them.

Re: Blocking - Loss of Action

This is where the idea of simultaneous or sequential actions as a game mechanic paradigm comes in. As I always lean to some flavor of the former, I am leery of game situations that penalize higher initiative scores by allowing lower ones to effectively react to their actions. This is such a case. Si...

Re: Battle Maps and Elevations

For instance, can you see the target's feet, or their torso?
Sure. And apply damage to the cover if you can't see a body part but the location die says that's where they are hit.

Re: Battle Maps and Elevations

Height is vitally important. Just because you can't see the ground doesn't mean you can't see the hex. Without knowing how the observer's height interacts with the definition of a level, you can't know where their sight line begins. Without knowing how the interesting thing's(TM) height interacts wi...

Re: Battle Maps and Elevations

Your formula needs to be H*X. As written, only 2.4 hexes are masked.

More importantly, without context as to the definition of "height," the formula becomes less valuable. How does the GM translate their conception of the battlefield to the players? How tall is an obstacle? Or a building?
