Re: Beta Feedback - Referee's Manual Chapter 1 The World at War

Since Corps are numbered with Roman numerals, I GE/NL Corps. (Or whatever.) :)

Re: Beta Feedback - Player's Manual Chapter 6 Travel

One solution, given that the system tends to make weather fairly static, is to roll up (or otherwise determine) the weather for several days in advance, & just note it as something like "day 2, overcast, drizzle in the afternoon." I've always found weather tables tend to give silly results at times ...

Re: Beta Feedback - Player's Manual Chapter 6 Travel

I read this section as outlining the effect of Weather/Darkness on travel hexes. If the Weather is Fair, and it is nighttime, you can see 10 Travel Hexes at night (15 with a full moon). Thats ... 100 km of visibility on a clear night, 150 km with a full moon. I assume you meant to type combat hexes...

Re: Vehicle Cargo - Alpha/Beta Feedback

Well, "CUCV" in Canadian army usage only ever meant one thing, which I guess was the M1008 pickup? It was a bench seat in the cab & 8 fold-down seats in the truck bed. This is where I think some common sense has to come into play with cargo vehicles -- though it would help if the rules would suggest...

Re: M1911A1 damage

+1.

This was a problem in 2e ... really, the .45 fans need to stop this stuff. You can fuss all you like about stopping power but when it comes down to it the difference between a handgun round and a rifle round just blows these fine distinctions out of the water.

Re: Vehicle Cargo - Alpha/Beta Feedback

CUCV: 3 passengers or 75 cargo (note that a civilian pickup truck is listed as 5 passengers/250 cargo, hrm)
In fact, the CUCV can't fit three passengers in its cab ... but there are 8 fold-down passenger seats in the truck bed, four on each side. So this is obviously a mess.

Re: Beta - Combat Actions/Reactions

At a purely conceptual level, without reference to the rules, a melee attack made as an "ambush" implies that the victim doesn't see it coming. You're hitting them from behind or with complete surprise. So it would not make sense that they can block it. Same with a grenade ... even given that the th...

Re: Beta - Combat Actions/Reactions

Is there a rule for prone in a ditch that I'm missing? Hot tip: when you are standing behind knee-high cover, the action of going prone will put you behind cover. We are discussing the action of going prone here, not the condition of being prone. I didn't think this was complex, but apparently I wa...

Re: Beta - Combat Actions/Reactions

Shooting at a Prone target is a -1 shift (if they're not in the same Hex). So the +3 would still be a +2 for all the subsequent attacks... that's still substantial. For all the subsequent attacks in the scenario I described, the defending party is prone in a DITCH and therefore cannot be hit at all.

Re: Beta - Combat Actions/Reactions

I don't see that it is offset. There's a +3 modifier to the attack, but only one character would get to attack -- which entirely defeats the purpose of the rule giving all participants in a group ambush the top initiative cards. And this is surely not the only scenario where allowing players to go p...
