Re: Food and Bases: Not workable?

Ask was mentioned in a different thread Poland has a long history of salt mining, and that salt was primarily used as a method of preserving food like meat. Given the backstory it is likely that many people living in rural Poland would know how to preserve foods due to them living off their own farm...

Re: First session issue...

An alternative is to use TW 4th edition to run a WWII scenario. We know who the bad guys are and we know that they lost. I played a one shot where a small group of allied soldiers - British, French and Belgium - had to come together to help a important Belgian VIP escape from behind German lines and...

Re: Town Maps

Modern towns are large enough that making a full map is beyond most cheap mapping software designed for fantasy mapping. But what we do have is aerial maps and full street maps of the whole world available. I have posted this before - a full road map of Europe. https://www.oldmapsonline.org/en/Pr%C4...

Re: Tank Crits with Protected Ammunition

The shock of the explosion of the magazine would knock out many of the tank's systems. One of the reasons the Russians lost so many tanks in Grozny was that the ERA when detonated by satchel charges being tossed onto the tanks jammed the turret and autoloaders and left the tanks crippled and blind. ...

Re: Soldier Kit

In fact we know what the actual Soviet doctrine was for a war in Europe thanks to the collapse. The plan was for a hopefully near-surprise attack by overwhelming numbers that would push as far into Western Europe as possible before both the arrival of major US reinforcements and the inevitable loss ...

Re: Very Detailed Example of Combat

Vader I have a large number of books on the Vietnam War. The Battle of Lang Vei was part of the larger siege of Khe Sanh. I have read several accounts of the battle against the tanks, but I grabbed the quote from this source. https://www.warhistoryonline.com/instant-articles/green-berets-battle-of-l...

Re: Very Detailed Example of Combat

While it is the RPG that has become ubiquitous LAWs were carried by allied infantry in Vietnam for the same reason: taking out bunkers and entrenched positions. While the M79 grenade launcher was also used the direct fire aspect of the LAW made it useful. The only time LAWs were used by US troops a...

Re: Very Detailed Example of Combat

If anything the wars of recent years have shown that RPGs are used more in the anti-personnel mode than anti-armour. Fundamentally it is a grenade you shoot. While they obviously can be used against armour, helicopters and other vehicles the thing most infantry encounter on the battlefield is other ...
