Quite interesting. What about using the ring-lore skills of Nethig, the slumbering elf in Swanfleet, in the Hill of the Sleeper?
She would be qualified to use the forge and remake the ring... And that would make a whole subplot to resolve for the party before going to Eregion.

In that logic, it seems that weapon proficiencies in TOR are used for weapons of war, not civilian self-defense, which is covered by brawling.

What do you think?

I've been using Roll20 with my group for several years, for virtual play but also tabletop - it's great to speed up combat, and more generally dice rolling.
