Re: My one major peeve with TOR

I agree. While I do not want to be dismissive of a creative solution and idea, it becomes cumbersome and honestly feels a bit cheap compared to a nicely bound hardcover book. Personally, if I want to organize things, I just print the desired sections of my purchased pdfs and organize them in whateve...

Re: Hopes and Fears with Journeys in Middle-Earth...

There has been some great discussion in this thread so far. I'm not going to have a strong opinion until we see the first playtestable version of 2e Journeys, but will more generally say: 1. I would hate to see the Journey system get over-simplified as I think it should be every bit as complex, impo...

Re: My one major peeve with TOR

thank you very much for the recommendation. Actually I even own the book, but I haven't read it all yet, because the history of Middleearth is not available in the German translation except for the first two volumes. This unfortunately makes it even less accessible to me than if it were my mother t...

Re: Will TOR 2e get the "Free League" Treatment?

I love the black/orange combo. It reminds me of the dice from Hunt for the Ring, which I think is also a good color scheme for "evil" dice:

And just a great game!

Re: Will TOR 2e get the "Free League" Treatment?

I 3D printed these, because I always thought the look of black with orange numbers would make good "enemy" dice. I would love to see an official color scheme that was similar.

Those are sharp, sir. Well done!

Re: My one major peeve with TOR

I'm not sure Tolkien was entirely consistent here with the published legendarium. The Silvan language does continue to dominate in Lothlórien. However, by the end of the Third Age Sindarin becomes the dominant language of the Mirkwood Elves with little remaining of Silvan except some place names an...

Re: My one major peeve with TOR

Hi Smog, I found your entire essay on the subject of elven cultures in the regions of Lindon very interesting and well thought out. However, I would disagree with you on one point concerning the mixing of cultures. Even though the time span of 6000 years described above in your post (see quote) may...

Re: My one major peeve with TOR

That it wasn't fun to play that culture? You and I have very different notions of "well-designed", methinks. I do understand the argument that Dunedain and High Elves are, according to the setting, superior in just about every way to normal people (with, perhaps, the exception of Hobbits ...

Re: My one major peeve with TOR

I'm sorry if I made you think you caused offense. I was not offended, just a bit disappointed. I apologize for my part in suggesting that you were being intentionally deceptive. Bygones? I did not assert that any of the High Elves migrated from Lindon to Rivendell, though some might have done so. M...

Re: My one major peeve with TOR

The full quote from Appendix A is more revealing: "In the days of the Kings most of the High Elves that still lingered in Middle-earth dwelt with Círdan or in the seaward lands of Lindon. If any now remain the are few." This tells me that, over the course of the intervening one thousand y...
