Re: Journey and fatigue

Thanks for your reply. Overall the distance was 7 Hex. The guide succeeded the first two travel tests, but missed the last. So I went for three journey events.
Next time I would probably skip the last. With one hex left, there is no need to test the Guide, at least in spring / summer.

Journey and fatigue

We did some game testing today and played out a journey. I was wondering: did I do everything right as LM? The guide managed to cover the distance with three journey events and all those events went well. Scout and Huntsmen didn't mess anything up and therefore the group and the acting heroes didn't...

Re: One Rule to bind them.

Fair enough. Again, different approaches for different gms. Just because I do it a certain way doesn't make it right. Even then, though, they don't have to know when you spent the point. For example: "-dice roll- the orc chieftain let's out a raging shriek, using a point of hate to..." Th...

Re: One Rule to bind them.

The players should never know when the bad guys are using their resources or even what resources they have. That is the purpose of the screen. They don't see what happens behind it because they don't need to. And if I'm wrong on your newness then I apologize and can only say we have vastly differen...

Re: One Rule to bind them.

The lifespan of an enemy is measured in rounds, and they often have less hate overall than the player's have hope. So not letting them spend hate for their special abilities as the text says will severely weaken them when imo combat tends to favour the player's anyway. And as stated an enemy can sp...

Re: New Journey System - yay or nay?

Examples (I'm including the Role and Event Type from the rules, but really prepared Events don't have to map to those rules): Hunter/Shortcut: While stalking (animal) you notice what could be a hidden path through the (terrain). If you go back to tell the company you will lose your game. If you cha...

Re: A pattern in criticism?

Prolonged actions were a simple but powerful tool in 1E; the lack of the reduction in difficulty for help feels counter to the value of Felloship and Camaraderie in the works of Prof. Tolkien. It was one of the things that really stood out... everyone singing to impress The Lord of Eagles? How many?...

Re: Alpha Feedback - Core Rulebook Chapter 8 The Loremaster

Page 134: Poisoned. The endurance loss at end of day is almost meaningless as written; the prolonged rest after end of day will heal it all. I suspect it should prevent endurance recovery until cured. Also, this is functionally a condition and thus should be mentioned on page 22. (already noted in ...

Re: The Problem With Hope

In such a long thread it's probably been suggested already but how about this as a fix. You roll your standard dice pool and fail by a few points. After the roll, you spend Hope to roll an extra 1d or 2d. If you still fail, you get the point of Hope back. In other words, spending Hope "might&q...
