Re: The Lord of the Rings (5E) Early Access Feedback

The book gives Cultural Traits and ability modifiers tied to those cultures, but the latest 5E releases have aggressively stepped away from that model, instead making ability scores choices you can make. With 5E going away from this, have you considered stealing that idea for ability scores? Yes we...

Re: Ruins of the Lost Realm

Well... Tolkien himself wasn't above such things! :) Let's take a look at the dwarven names in Völuspá: ...those, and 'wormtongue', Eärendil, Atalantë, Avallónë, Turin/Kullervo... In general, I think that rooting new creations into older ones helps in giving them substance. Perhaps the 'boneless' r...

Re: One Ring Dice Set

Hold on to your TOR Spinal Tap dice.
...this made me laugh out loud. (Good, in a day with such news, marring the happiness of seeing people finally getting the game!).

Re: Extrapolations

I answered this on Rpg.net already but I’ll repost here: First, Tolkien’s disdain about diminutive fairies was aimed at the Victorians treatment of Elves in particular, not at the general fairies of British folk lore. This said, in the starter set, the introduction of fairies is attributed to a piec...

Re: Contradiction in Skill of Eldar in Rivendell book

The Tengwar icon should have been a Gandalf rune, so the rest of the rule is correct. I think here an example would have helped to understand the application of the rule, but the format we chose didn't allow for that. So, some notes follow: - In the game, Magical successes are 'invoked' by spending ...

Re: Alpha Feedback - Ch. 3, "Men" of Bree

I'm disappointed that Hobbits of Bree are neglected in the core rules. But then, so are Dwarves of the Blue Mountains.
Bree-Hobbits are in. They're just in the chapter that hasn't been shared yet.

If the SG is unlocked, all dice sets produced for TOR 2 will include two Feat dice instead of one.

Re: Hope in 2.0

If invoking a Trait now gives a bonus die (as I've read in the Discord), the "increase your luck" mechanic is already covered. Hope should, IMO, be something different. Didn't see this: don't worry, 'Traits' do not give you a bonus die, they get you Inspired (one of the sources for that)....

Re: Hope in 2.0

One reason among many to change the way Hope worked was that spending Hope to 'buy' a success 1) required an additional calculation, 2) was mathematically a 'no brainer', in the sense that of course you considered its expenditure only when it got you a success. This, combined with the fact that it a...
