Re: Sharing useful items

If an item were appropriate to be shared, I think I might also add a bit of risk to lending it out. If the borrower rolls an Eye when using it : it's either lost or broken or otherwise consumed. Replace the item in next Fellowship phase though.

Re: Council Skill Endeavor math odds success rate

Apologies if I have misunderstood this conversation. But one of the problems with the mechanic of this rule is that the Councils with greater challenge are actually easier (as in more likely) to be achieved overall, because there are so many rolls (so much "Time") in the most Challenging Councils. A...

Re: Council Skill Endeavor math odds success rate

Big thanks to OP for doing the numbers too. I was at a complete loss how to think about even setting up any sort of numerical analysis for something with so many successive steps. And this would be well beyond me.

Re: Rules-lite vs simulationist

@niallism. Not sure what you mean here. Disingenuous is a strong word. Are you suggesting that the writers knew they would pass the 10 million krona level before they launched , and therefore cynically withheld e.g. the Eye of Mordor rules to act out the idea of adding this information later? It is ...

Re: Virtue of the Rangers of the North: Ways of the Wild

@gyrovague's point. Yes. But each hobbit could be an additional Scout, Hunter or Look out. - cant have two Guides, naturally , but 3 out of 4 aint bad. And the Frodo character is trying to avoid rolling an Eye as he has this odd bit of jewellery...

Re: Virtue of the hobbits: Art of disappearing

Examining "Making a Roll" pages 17 to 19, the hobbit has to Succeed first. Then its on page 85 Art of Disappearing: the Virtue is that by Spending the T result, the hobbit does not simply sneak into position past an adversary. (Boromir had never heard of this - he thought that one does not simply wa...

Re: Virtue of the Rangers of the North: Ways of the Wild

I know that in TOR1e, Aragorn was "not your typical Ranger" *, but from Bree to Weathertop, didn't he do all four? And then he dropped the Hunting efforts after the attack on Weathertop, as they had 'the need for speed' changing the priority? * btw I do think that among the other Rangers there were ...

Re: Rules-lite vs simulationist

On the other hand, look at the Kickstarter campaign with all those stretch goals. These are specific points when the writers (and the supporting backers with their commentaries during the live period of the campaign) added material to the Core Rules. If those Stretch Goals had not been met (ha ha, f...

Re: Rules-lite vs simulationist

Apologies for sounding too dim here. I don't feel I understand the use of simulationism here. The thread title implies to me that "rules- intense" games would be simulationism. And that a "rules - lite" system isn't? Simulating something is akin to modelling or imitating it, I thought. And so, in fa...

Re: A couple of council skill use questions..

I suspect modern use of the Song / Riddle effect includes those things that are called memes ?
Or particular gestures exhibited by sportsfolk and comedy acts.
